LEGO Super Heavy & Starship models
« on: 01/29/2019 10:46 pm »
Following the success of FH submissions to the LEGO ideas website (thread here), there are a couple of Suoer Heavy / Starship submissions:

https://ideas.lego.com/projects/5199f8dc-34ad-492a-91e2-0008c8e37f81

https://ideas.lego.com/projects/641c0400-624b-495d-93d6-6b43299f1f5e

Not surprisingly, each submission involves people behind the two successful FH-related projects currently under review by LEGO. Both are similar scales 1:110 & 1:103.

I was thinking about this a few days ago. It would be so awesome to have a model on the scale of the Saturn V. It would be especially cool for it to have the fins on hinges (that could easily be a defining feature). However, I don't see LEGO releasing one until Starship/Superheavy start flying, and probably a good deal of time after that :(

The tail flaperons seem small in both but is that just me?

Interestingly the flaperon designs on the two models look identical. I don’t think they are too far out in size. Angles a little different due to available LEGO piece slopes.

Only makes sense to start making models after the finished design flies.

Forgive me if this has been posted previously, but I didn't see anything. Found on reddit that the guy who built the Falcon Heavy and reached 10,000 backers just released his new Starship Super Heavy lego set. I reaallllly want one! Let's get the word out and support it!!!

Edit: Guess it would help if I provided a link. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/641c0400-624b-495d-93d6-6b43299f1f5e

I get that the more rockets LEGO approves the better. But I'm not a big fan of this.
Having a Super Heavy + Starship kit would be really cool. But maybe at least wait until the design is final and it has actually flown?

That's what I thought too. It might be too early. Meanwhile, I am happy to buy the Falcon Heavy (if* it is approved).

*big if, unfortunately.

Definitely too early given last night's TweetStorm; Super Heavy may get fin-legs and drag-fins.

An update last week to the 1:110 scale (i.e. same as LEGO Saturn V) Starship/Super Heavy shows a great size comparison shot (attached).

Update is at:

Sadly the two SpaceX projects in the current round were not selected. That may not bode well for this one.

First internal pictures of Lego Starship - Super Heavy released!

Cockpit is complete with reclinable seats, inspired by Dragon 2 & control systems for the pilots.

There's still time to support SpaceX Lego, only 1,400 tickets to go!

Fingers crossed that whatever prevented the FH submissions from being approved is different this time.
