I just heard. 50 mph winds broke the mooring blocks late last night & fairing was blown over. Will take a few weeks to repair.

PS To all, please don't hotlink photos on other sites. Post the URL to the post, not the attachment. Hotlinking means a photo is taken from here, shown on another site, served by NSF's servers, but those seeing it on the other site never actually visit NSF (just draining our servers). Yeah, the webmaster told me we have some caching tricks in play for that, but it's always best to send a person to the thread and then they get the accreditation of who uploaded it and all the context of the actual posts. If we see a photo with thousands of downloads, we know it's being hotlinked and we'll kill that link.

Also, again - updates on here (before someone forgets) :)

The first prototype of #Starship hopper will take a few weeks to repair. 50 mph winds broke the mooring blocks late last night & fairing half was blown over. photos 20 min ago :/ #SpaceX Best of luck to all the hardworking @SpaceX teams. ♡ Y'all got this!

Nosecone has been moved to under the big dome.

Note: Cropped and enhanced BCG’s pic with Adobe Lightroom

The hold-down mechanisms were just these tack welded D-Rings around the base snapped over something on the water tower base. Some with “re-enforcing” tiedown straps. There were no Guy wire(yes that is the correct term) system to stabilize. Having worked on semi-sub oil platforms in the GOM, that is piss-poor rigging

STARSHIP NOSE CONE DESTROYED IN WINDSTORM - Repairs to take only a few weeks

Spadre.com South Padre Island Information
Published on Jan 23, 2019

STARSHIP upper fairing was completely destroyed in an overnight windstorm at SpaceX South Texas launch site at Boca Chica. Winds gusting in excess of 50mph toppled the nose cone, crushing it upon impact. The lower portion including fuel tanks was undamaged. The nose cone fairing contained no critical components and should be reconstructed quickly, little if any delay in launch tests are expected.

Elon Musk tweeted: "I just heard 50mph winds broke the mooring blocks late last night and fairing was blown over. Will take a few weeks to repair. Actual tanks are fine."

A new video made by Spadre.com

We can see that one of the holes is clearly being used for ventilation right now, even tho it doesn't seem to be the final purpose of it.

The panel being lowered into the Hopper yesterday was marked head #2. It's a rainy day here today.
