Eric Berger: How's the fixed-cost framework working for NASA?

Gerst: **Smiles broadly** This is gonna be an interesting answer.

(in the end it wasn't, he replied to the first part of the question regarding how he felt about DM-1 after having worked for Shuttle/ISS for so long, but didn't go into money)

Quote of the night by Kathy:

People weigh different, but not *that* different. And if they do, they're probably not an astronaut.
...
That's why you aren't an astronaut (pointing to Hans)

[Hilarity ensues, Hans doesn't believe his ears]

I should have taken a nap before the briefing, they told me...

Newest design of COPVs 2.0 has flown in the last 3-4 Block 5 F9, and is expected (bar some minor open issues) to be the DM-2 configuration.

No "non-standard" open issues, notes Gerst, except a test with the velocity vector he talked about before but I missed the specifics of.

EDIT: I listened to the recorded version, and the "velocity vector" issue was the Russian concern about what would happen if the single (redundant) C&C box for Dragon-2 died during its approach to ISS.

In Kennedy Space Center’s Press Site auditorium, agency and industry leaders speak to members of the media on Friday, Feb. 22, during the post-flight readiness review briefing for the SpaceX Demo-1 Commercial Crew Program (CCP) mission to the International Space Station. From left are: Josh Finch of NASA Communications; William Gerstenmaier, associate administrator, NASA Human Exploration and Operations; Kathy Lueders, manager, NASA Commercial Crew Program; Hans Koenigsmann, vice president, Build and Flight Reliability, SpaceX; Kirk Shireman, International Space Station Program manager; and Norm Knight, deputy director, NASA Johnson Space Center Flight Operations. The inaugural uncrewed flight of the SpaceX Crew Dragon, known as Demo-1, is targeted to lift off from Kennedy’s Launch Complex 39A on Saturday, March 2. EST. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will launch the Crew Dragon on a mission designed to validate end-to-end systems and capabilities, leading to certification to fly crew.

L-3 launch weather forecsast is 80% GO:

Quote
Launch day probability of violating launch weather constraints: 20%
Primary concern(s): Cumulus Cloud Rule, Thick Cloud Rule

Delay day probability of violating launch weather constraints: 40%
Primary concern(s): Cumulus CloudRule, Thick Cloud Rule, Flight Thru Precip

Note that the back-up launch day is early Tuesday March 5th, so there's much greater uncertainty about the delay day probability. Hopefully DM-1 will lift-off on Saturday.

Weather Prediction: 80 Percent ‘Go’ for Saturday Launch

Stephanie Martin Posted on February 26, 2019

SpaceX is set to launch its Crew Dragon spacecraft on a Falcon 9 rocket, the first launch of a space system designed for humans built and operated by a commercial company through a public-private partnership, on a flight test to the International Space Station (ISS) at 2:49 a.m. EST on Saturday, March 2.

For a launch Saturday, meteorologists with the U.S. Air Force 45th Space Wing are predicting an 80 percent chance of favorable weather. Weak high pressure in advance of a front moving southeast into the area is expected during the launch window with a low probability for rain and weak surface winds and only slight concerns of any cumulus cloud or thick cloud rule violations during the instantaneous launch window.

More details about NASA’s coverage of the mission are available at: https://www.nasa.gov/press-release/nasa-spacex-demo-1-briefings-events-and-broadcasts
