More cut for better access to the hole.

Is there any vertical relief to the dot, or is all the material flush to the pressure vessel?

Later edit:  Apparently, there was some vertical relief--see down-thread for forceps-snipping of sample.

Now, taking images with GoPro

Original plan going into EVA would be to collect samples with swabs; an alternative now mentioned by Rob Navias in commentary that they could choose instead to cut off a sample with the knife!

Was the GoPro working correctly on the first imagery attempt?  There is dialog with MCC-M.

Why do they want to mess with the extruded epoxy that is plugging the hole?  Suppose they disturb the seal?

No knife; 3rd try(?) he was successful in snipping off and retaining the end of the extrusion with forceps!

MCC-M asking them to carefully stow the sample.
***

I didn't catch the full dialog--are they using sandpaper on the extrusion?  Buffing it flush, and/or as a sample gathering technique?

Answer: (sandpaper?) swab, held in handling device, is used on the extrusion for sample collection.  Sample stowed in collection container.

"Meta-question" for later:
Did anyone outside of the Russian ISS/Roskosmos circle of experts visualize this EVA proceeding like as it has thus far?

(Brute force cutting vs. fine tools, tethering to thermal insulation cuts, etc.)

"Meta-meta-question"
And is this a manifestation of ISS = Freedom + Mir 2; two separate programs that happen to be joined together, but are executed independently where/whenever possible?

MCC-M is encouraging them to start tidying-up and prepare to leave the work-site.

start tidying-up

Might be a little late for that now!

(Glad to see them mentioning that tether to the MLI "handle" on Soyuz, was a little paranoid that would get left there and cause issues when they undocked...)

Re: Tidying
Rob Navias reports that, contrary to the original plan, Russian experts determined that the EVA team will not need to re-cover the work-site with thermal blanketing.

The crane is being prepared for moving away from the Soyuz.
***

Are they unfolding the 3-sided flap cut in the MMOD layer back into place?
***

Is the gold (Mylar-covered) box the sample collection container?
