The launch of a triplet of Rodnik or Strela-3M satellites, collectively "blok no. 16," is listed as occurring no earlier than this month.  (This is very far from a guarantee that the launch WILL happen in September 2018!)

Planned Russian space launches
(suborbital launches are not included!)

2018
Date Time (UTC) – Satellite(s) – Rocket/Upper stage – Cosmodrome

NET September NET December - three 14F132 Rodnik satellites [block-16] – Rokot/Briz-KM – Plesetsk, 133/3

Changes on September 4

If so, this could be the next Russian orbital launch.  EDIT 11/28: It wasn't.

It could also be the next orbital launch from Plesetsk.  EDIT 11/28: It wasn't.

It could be the first of three remaining Rokot launches (if there are any more Rokot launches at all).
Thread: Rokot future

It would launch the next three satellites to receive a "Kosmos" designation.  EDIT 11/28:  They weren't.  The launches of Kosmos 2528 and 2529 came first.  EDIT 12/29: Designated Kosmos 2530, 2531, and 2532.
***

Here's a thought that could apply to this launch; cross-posted:
I wonder if there will be a space launch during the big military exercise Russia will be doing on 11-15th September.

During 1982 exercise, there were three launches. And there was one in February 2004...

EDIT 9/25: no Russian orbital launches during the exercise.

other sites strictly report that Rodnik is flying any time in the second half of 2018 although flying on a Rockot is slim unless they fly a Stela from Baikonur due to the unavailability of Breeze-KM Ukrainian avionics for government missions and Russian replacement avionics will be expensive and result in no flights this year and likely next year. Breeze-M avionics can not fly on Breeze-KM because of differences.

Looks like this launch (one of last 4 planned for Rokot) is now planned on November 30.

Can we just get this down on the thread one more time, as I can then link to it when people on Twitter complain?

Rokot. Not Rockot.

Fire away! ;D

There is a Soyuz-2.1v at the kosmodrome but it is for a 2019 launch of another payload. The NOTAM's reflect Rockot and Strela for the first 2 stages. Rockot is most likely as Strela has never flown from Plesetsk however I don't know when they acquired Briz-KM avionics from Ukraine.

I use "Rokot" as the transliteration from Russian to English.  However, I'm following the lead of (some of?) our Russian spaceflight experts.  And/or Russian and English-speaking bilinguals?

Assuming all goes as currently planned and successfully, this satellite triplet should be Kosmos 2530, 2531, and 2532.

And perhaps an inspector Cosmos 2533 to make life interesting?

Oh and I vote for Rokot - I have always used this spelling.   I always thought that "Rockot" came about because some nerks thought that Rokot was Russian for "rocket".

“Rockot” actually is the second half of the title of the European launch provider, Eurockot, that used the Rokot-KM on several occasions such as three Sentinel satellites, the Swarm mission, and the first GRACE mission.

I am sure that the spelling "Rockot" was circulating well before Eurockot appeared, so I had assumed that they had picked up the incorrect transliteration of the launch vehicle's name.

The window is now open. Not sure why the thread says the launch is approximately half hour later.

The window is now open. Not sure why the thread says the launch is approximately half hour later.

I based that on the actual launch time vs air space closure start time for similar launches in 2014/5 (30 and 45 minutes into the window respectively).

Launch success! Launch time was at 02:27 UTC.

The booster block "breeze-km " with a cluster of three military satellites separated from the rocket  "Rokot "

Moscow. November 30. INTERFAX.RU-separated from the rocket  "Rokot " booster block  "Breeze-km " with a cluster of three military satellites, reported on Friday in the Department of Information and Mass Communications of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

"Space head of the space rocket of the Light class" Rokot  "As a part of the booster block " Breeze-km  "and three spacecraft launched in the interests of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, in the estimated time-05:33 MSK nominally separated from the second Stages of the launch vehicle "Rokot ",-said in a statement.

The devices will come out in about two hours on the calculation orbits. Launch of the Rocket "Rokot " from Plesetsk Cosmodrome was held on November 30 at 5:27 MSK.

This is the second launch of the Light class "Rokot" launcher from Plesetsk Cosmodrome in 2018. The previous start of the "Rokota " was held in April this year.

The first launch of the space rocket "Rokot " took place from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on May 16, 2000. In total during this period 29 launches of this rocket were carried out from the cosmodrome, about 70 spacecraft of different purpose were taken to orbit.

The "Rokot" Light class launch vehicle was created as part of a conversion program based on the RS-18 intercontinental ballistic missile. The "Rokot " consists of a block of accelerators (first and second stages) and a cosmic head part consisting of a booster block  "Breeze-km ", a head fairing, a transitional system, an intermediate compartment and a payload compartment.

"Rokota " is manufactured by the Khruniceva Center.

I think the launch is still undergoing with at least two burns for the upper stage.
