Parachute qualification and abort system qualification are the two big ones that we know about publicly.

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1181584415362707456

Which sounds to me like they're switching parachutes, which will need to go through some testing, preferably before IFA.

It is possible that the ‘Mark3’ parachute has been developed in tandem with other marks. ‘Focusing on’ instead of using ‘moving on’ might be a clue or just over analyzing Elon’s tweet.

Interesting that Elon Musk mentions (in the October 10th press conference at SpaceX headquarters, thread with videos here: https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=49241.0 ) that the MK 2 parachutes had lines made from nylon, and the MK 3 is going to zylon, which has something like 60 times greater tensile strength than nylon.

By the way, is there a dedicated thread on the inaccurate parachute modeling?

I'd actually like to know if anyone knows if that may have played a role in the parachute failures on the Ares I-X test flight. Would that even be something NASA would look into? Or any other parachute failures, like the larger supersonic parachute tested on the LDSD flights.

IIRC the supersonic chute failures were due to the chute material shredding, not line failures.

Right, but that material may have failed due to higher than anticipated forces on the lines connected to the parachute. Here's a link to the thread I made for this topic: https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=49273.0

Scoop: SpaceX plans to static fire Crew Dragon's new SuperDraco system on Nov. 2 in Florida at LZ-1, people familiar tell me.

The test will be closely watched, as SpaceX looks to show it fixed the issue from the Demo-1 capsule explosion in April.

So any idea why the super draco seems to sputter a bit in the middle of the firing? Planned mix change?

Throttling?

Probably throttle, SuperDracos need to do that to angle the trajectory of the Dragon away from the path of the rocket in the event of an abort. You can also see them throttle down smoothly after that, which is done to reduce peak g forces on the capsule / crew.

During a recent NASA council meeting, SpaceX’s response to a Crew Dragon capsule’s April 20th explosion was repeatedly praised by the agency’s senior Commercial Crew Program (CCP) manager, her optimism clearly rekindled after several undeniably challenging months.
