They've re-started three S1 engines at S2 startup altitudes over two dozen times, essentially writing the book on supersonic retropropulsion for re-entry, so their high altitude multi-engine startup experience isn't that lacking.
I did not know this.  While that certainly helps reduce the concerns over upper stage multi engine ignition running with the BFS before the BFR reduces costs relative to the full up BFR.

Sometimes they do it twice; once for a boost-back burn, reversing course back to KSC, and once for re-entry. The re-entry burn causes the Eye of Sauron effect in this video

That's very dramatic.

Where was it being protographed from?
BFS. The worlds first Methane fueled FFORSC engined CFRP structured A380 sized aerospaceplane tail sitter capable of flying in Earth and Mars atmospheres. BFR. The worlds biggest Methane fueled FFORSC engined CFRP structured booster for BFS. First flight to Mars by end of 2022. Forward looking statements. T&C apply. Believe no one. Run your own numbers. So, you are going to Mars to start a better life? Picture it in your mind. Now say what it is out loud.

IIRC NASA tracking cameras. The NROL-76 mission was also photogenic as they couldn't broadcast S2 footage for security reasons.
