Cydonia - the face on Mars

21 September 2006

ESA's Mars Express has obtained images of the Cydonia region, site of the famous 'Face on Mars.' The High Resolution Stereo Camera photos include some of the most spectacular views of the Red Planet ever.

Personally, I think this has always been a 'face in the clouds' type of thing.  The human brain (not that I'm an expert) is programmed to recognize faces, subsequently I think it sees faces where there aren't any.  Like in spaghetti, water stains, or rocks.  But hey, if it fires the imagination and is an impotus to increase exploration - then more power to em ;)
