To anyone still tracking Starman, is it possible that he will get close enough to Mars to be captured into some kind of orbit from which the vehicle could be recovered?

Would make a great monument in the central plaza of Mars City Alpha.

Read this paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1802.04718  Credit to the authors.

More likely to get captured by someone Earth-bound. But the likelihood of getting captured anywhere without help is vanishingly small.

Best I found....I like the info it has like

"It has achieved a fuel economy of 15,293.7 miles per gallon (6,502.0 km/liter, 0.01538 liters/100 km), assuming 126,000 gallons of fuel.

If the battery was still working, Starman has listened to Space Oddity 385,244 times since he launched in one ear, and to Is there Life On Mars? 519,100 times in his other ear."

The residents of Mars Base Alpha (or Underhill, etc) will of course make their own decision about the name of their home city and what merits the status of a public memorial.  Or whether to have a central plaza.  Martians will be as independent as the supply chain from Earth allows.

Edit: There's a higher res version in L2 FH pictures and video thread for anyone interested.

Attached is higher res public (not L2) version from instagram.

See you later Starman  ;)

Does anyone know about how far away from Earth the Roadster was when this picture was taken? I skimmed through about a dozen pages of this, and associated FH Demo threads, but did not see any comments saying the distance from Earth.
