I expect Playlinda would be closed for a lift off from 39B.  It was for Shuttle, was it not?

There won't be a launch from 39B for a while. 39A is the SpaceX pad and is further from Playalinda.

After flying around Google Earth a bit I found that 401 location is clearly labeled "ROCKET LAUNCH VIEWING"! So, yea I agree with you that it will probably be a mob scene around there. But if it is a public area and the best place to take it all in might be worth the hassle.

Just outside the entrance to CCAFB is the public rocket viewing site. There is parking as well as bleachers to sit on. Also it is almost directly across the street from SpaceX launch control and USAF Canaveral rocket museum.
Here is my pics from this site of MUOS 4 on Atlas V 551. Image 2 has captured the 5 SRM's just after separation

I see a few others in the thread stating they got Saturn V Center tickets. Mini NSF meet up there? New topic?

Yes. Seems we should at least share a toast with our commemorative champagne flutes! :D  But I still want to attend whatever larger meetup is organized.

Ack.  You are right, but I _really_ think Playlinda was closed for a all Shuttle launches.  Maybe 39A is now far enough away though.  Perhaps Jim would know the real deal?

Playalinda Beach has been open for most F9 LC-39A launches and was open for the Falcon Heavy static test firing.

After discussion with the kiddo, she decided being closer to the landing is where she wants to be.  So, I've booked my room right by the Exploration Tower.  How is the view of launch/landing from there?

Ok, I just took a chance and booked a flight to be there 6-9th leaving 10th, so 2 day slack.
And if it slips more I will try to figure it out then and there.
Looking forward meeting you all!

I’m also looking forward to meet NSF members at Fishlips. Just booked a flexible ticket from Amsterdam and in the most ideal scenario we can have a second round of beers at Fishlips when OCISLY shows up with a duly toasted central core, medium done or overcooked –that we cannot yet predict I suppose.
On my way…

Went down to the launchpad for 'Heavy,
With 27 engines all revvy;
To see what she's  wearing
Peeked under her fairing;
Twas not a Tesla but Chevy!

Thanks for this.  I had no idea.

Some NSF members should split an AirBnb house. That's usually a great way to save. Personally, I just booked a private AirBnB room for the week, for less than a single hotel room night. That might be helpful to some of the starving students planning on making this trip.

After all, wasted all my money on that Feel the Heat champagne toast.

So, Jim has spoken! Is it Fishlips, then? Any particular time?

i've never been to the cape. What would those of you who have been there say is the closest and most optimal public place to catch a launch and landing?

This is the ultimate resource:
http://www.launchphotography.com/Delta_4_Atlas_5_Falcon_9_Launch_Viewing.html

Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach is going to be your best bet if you want to catch the landing. The best spot to catch both launch and landing appears to be just off Rt 401, just outside the air force base gates and across the street from SpaceX launch control, HERE

Thanks for the info. Is there a phone number that you can give me, to order tickets for the visitor center?
