Therin69.  My flight for this morning was cancelled and I now won’t be arriving until very late tonight.  So I won’t make it to the meet up.  Is it possible for me to PayPal the money to you and send electronically.  If that is not possible I understand.

Flew out in a snowstorm yesterday, arrived quite late, and then drove through the rains, but glad to be here with some advance time. This will be mammoth! (Besides, it’s 30 degrees (f) back home, and will be 70 here tomorrow...)

Yea.  My flight was delayed until tomorrow but was able to find a different flight for later today.  Prob should have went down yesterday.  Looking forward to it.

Therein69, I can also meet you in the morning if you can’t transfer electronically but that may be hectic.  Let me know what works for you.

I visited Playalinda Beach today and was at the fence (closest point to the FH) around 13:15 local time. I just missed an interview opportunity with the local TV station. Could have been an interesting take: FH launch viewers even from Amsterdam.. ha, ha

Anyway, the guards were very strict, and walking up the wooden ramp for taking a better picture at the fence was not permitted. The best picture opportunity is probably at the walkway from Parking Zone 1 towards the beach.

The strong wind was blowing along the beach towards the launchpad and if it stays that way the sound experience will not be so good I think (sound being one of the main reasons for selecting that viewing site).

The view was hazy, possibly also because we were looking into the sun.

Finally, the beach was fairly narrow (towards high tide I reckon) and only so many people can realistically be close to the fence for a maximum immersion in the takeoff spectacle.

To end on a positive note: the very friendly guard at the entrance to the nature reserve confirmed that the park would be open from 06:00 onwards.

Thanks to all those who helped organize tonight.  It was great to meet and see so many super excited folks.

My little Astronaut door prize will forever be a good luck charm (pending tomorrow).

I had a great time at the meetup tonight. It was great putting faces to names for many familiar NSFers. Here is a photo to give you a feel for the turnout.

We had a great time also.

Too bad we ended up at the wrong meetup, just outside on the deck. Still met fellow enthusiasts and had drinks.

Fishlips is a decent spot, will remember for future trips up here.

:)

Good to see everyone! Hopefully we can do this again soon. Crew dragon? BFR? I'm always down to meet up if any locals want to make a tradition of it!

FYI Playalinda beach is closed as of 4am. Officer is posted just before the gate and is turning everyone around. No signs or notice till you get there.

Yesterday they said they would be open.

Talked to a local dude and he said they are just turning people around till it opens at six. There is still nothing posted on the flashing billboard before you enter.

If true not cool to the officer telling people the beach is closed without saying it will be open later.

Will let you know.

If you missed the meetup, you missed out. Thanks to those who organized. Met some terrific people, and enjoyed soaking up all the excitement. I adore my doorprize shuttle keychain too.

Everywhere i went today, I was bumping into people who are here for the launch, and everyone is all chatty and excited. Really neat to be here for a launch, finally.

Special shoutout to Jim, who at times seemed like the celebrity guest.  I heard so many people say, “I want to meet Jim.”  Thanks for tolerating all my questions.  And special thanks for taking so much time with the two ten year olds who were enamored with meeting someone who has worked inside the program. I hope you don’t mind, I was one of the folks who steered them your way. I do believe they were awestruck.

Beach update. They are turning folks around just before you pass the billboard entering Merritt and making people wait on the side of the road till six am. There is a long line of cars and it's becoming a mess as they turn folks around.

32 minutes till six am currently.

Should we make a new thread for traffic & crowd conditions around the area?  If not, how is the Port / 401 area looking so far?

TRAFFIC UPDATE

Up until 6:00 am (local) everything was flowing good: I95, NASA Causeway, etc.

6:20 am —- Traffic into the KCS Visistor Center is backing up. The diehards here very early parked off the road right at the parking entrance. Unfortunately the slightly less enthusiastic just began stopping on the road, blocking us fanatics in.

Per the guard at the KSC VC gate they will open up parking at 630 am.
