My darling wife, ever the planner, suggested that someone have name labels,   complete with our online monikers, on hand. Any ambitious types want to take that on?

And it's not really safe to walk from the restaurant area over to the cruise ship area.

Not safe = roads not meant for pedestrians, not "not safe because of crime" or anything like that.  You'd be walking on the highway basically.  American road design assumes only cars will be on roads, it's rare outside of cities for roads to accommodate bikers or walkers.  Take an Uber or Lyft across from fishlips if you must: you can probably drop a pin on the right destination spot in the app.

It's worth briefly mentioning that Fishlips has an excellent view of the Go twins and OCISLY as well, although they will likely be out at sea for FH. But I hung out at Fishlips with my 5-yr-old before the ORS-5 launch in August, and we got to ogle the SpaceX navy from close up. He likes boats as well as rockets.

Also: the SpaceX launch control center is just across the way, at the end of 401, and the area in front of it is open to the public (you turn off before you get to the guardhouse).  Someday there will be a used F9 erected out in front.  If the launch gets scrubbed and you find yourself in the area it might be worth a touristy wander.

Man, I'd love to come down.
But if there's a BFR maiden flight and/or first manned Mars flight meetup, save me a seat. I will be there!  ;D

Serious question:
When there's no launches occurring, can you still go to the public viewing site next to Port Canaveral? Would it be worth going there with binoculars just to get some shots of the pads?

Even better, the Air Force Space & Missile History Center is there

Sghill, you're sending Jakusb to Fishlips while you're going to 401, so which is better for the least obstructed view of the landing, and you or Mike advised against Jetty Park altogether? I expect there's no hope of a launch view w/o a treeline from the port, or is Mike's location on 528 best since the view is straight up the river?

He doesn't have a car and a cabbie can find Fishlips.

Looking at google streetview, It seems 401 will have best view of launch
And Fishlips should have best view of the landings, while having some brush obstructing view of launchpad?

Ok, looking at Google Maps, I think I see 401 being about 1-2 mile from Fishlips?
That should be an easy walk to where you are standing, or is something preventing that option?
I plan to go there as early as I can to prevent any issues with possible traffic jams.
With the Wifi and food @Fishlips I can happily work on my laptop until the real excitement begins..
I just have to figure out if it is cheaper to rent a car or get an uber...
My hotel is Seralago Hotel & Suites @5678 West Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy Kissimmee, so about 70 miles out and about a 70 minute drive...

Kissimmee!?! Wow. Rent a car at the airport. Soooo much cheaper.

And it's not really safe to walk from the restaurant area over to the cruise ship area.

Car rented for 5 days for 171 dollars, so transport covered, it now shifts to just parking and driving safely... ;)
With GovSat-1 safely in orbit, even more excited... :)

Nice little museum next to Space X as well. Simple but informative. Great volunteers who serve as guides, or self-directed.

Also good guidance regarding “not safe” for pedestrians. Walking on highway + lots of gawking tourists who are unfamiliar with area = potential for terrible trouble on an itherwise celebratory historic day.

Ya beat me to the send button. Yes, highly recommend. Not glitzy, but hugely informative. Easy to invest some time in this place.

I've seen this idea batted around in a few other posts. I'd say the more folks that come armed with some pre-printed labels the easier it will be to make pre-launch friends with everyone. I'll try to bring some labels as well.

I'll be coming down for the launch, not sure yet where I want to try viewing it from.  I've never seen a launch in person so I'm tempted to try Playalinda if it's open, otherwise probably near the port.  Maybe we can work out some carpools when we meet up on Monday  :)

I should be there, possibly with elderly mother-in-law in tow.  I will be wearing a "The Boring Company" cap.

We might even see a falcon9 being towed into port... 1032 survived the soft water landing and they are going to try to tow it to shore.

Please keep us informed if playalinda status changes / clarifies.  It would be a great place not only for launch viewing but also to kill time while waiting. It is a wonderful, wild place. I was there christmas day (coooold) for a mini-picnic.  And have been there other times in better weather. A marvelous spot in general.

Really? That's kind of amazing. I'm one good belly-flop away from losing my lunch.

An even better idea would be to cancel your Kissimmee motel reservation after Monday night and get a room near the port while you still can.

CeeJay, you've posted you'll be at the Saturn V Center for the launch, so I'll bring some blank name tags & markers for the day & evening of the launch elsewhere.

Does the AF museum offer parking and viewing for the launches?

There is a small parking lot there. Shared by the Sands Museum, SpaceX & Moon Express. So consider it to be full and not usable on launch day. You will need to park on the grass on the side of the road. There are some bleachers set up directly across the road on the Banana River side of 401 (North). Most likely, they will be reserved and not available for the public.

It is closed (along with its parking lot) on launch days since that is where SpaceX LCC is.

Unfortunately, the website is less than useless. When you actually show up to the guard house, there is a chalkboard which tells you if they are open or not. By than, you have wasted a good 45 minutes of driving - assuming there is no rocket traffic to get out to the beach...

https://www.nps.gov/cana/planyourvisit/conditions.htm

The only good news though may be that (at least according to various written commentary, not personal experience) the viewing from Max Brewer Bridge which connects the Preserve to Titusville is supposed to be quite good, especially for 39-A. It would be an appealing backup that would be within easy travel distance if the Preserve decides to close unexpectedly.

Hey everyone! So I am super busy and won’t have time to actually plan this myself, but fear not, because another member of our forum has volunteered to take the reins on this. And for ease of remembering names, it’s another Chris! This time, Chris M (Forum member name is "C"). He should be in touch with all of you who have expressed interest in the thread of attending the Falcon Heavy meetup at some point soon so we can decide on a restaurant and all that. Looking forward to meeting all of you
