So, Jim has spoken! Is it Fishlips, then? Any particular time?

I'm interested, but need to see the media schedule before committing to anything.

Hmm. I will be landing near midnight on 5th/6th at Orlando airport, so that would make me miss the party after all.. 🤦🏼‍♂️

Anyone know how to sail and navigate well enough to not cause a scrub?

https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/9380296?location=Cape%20Canaveral%2C%20FL%2C%20United%20States&check_in=2018-02-06&check_out=2018-02-09&s=ZYjA_WB3

So either you get great view of the launch or be hated by everyone in the spaceflight community.  ;D

Ok, so is it firm, Fishlips at 6pm the night before?  Need to make plans and obtain hotel reservations.

My Dad and I are planning on flying in on the 5th so we're happy to meet up at Fishlips that night with whoever shows up. Definitely gonna need a cold beer after a long day of travel! :D

So, I am freaking out a little bit, mo worries, just a little bit,  it still.
I am arriving Jan 5th midnight onto 6th. So 13 hours before first launch attempt.
KSC is sold out. Exploration Tower is not yet selling. I do not yet have a car and clearly unfamiliar there anyway.
I guess waaiers seems to try and get a ticket for Exploration Tower. Or would it be possible to get somewhere strategically in middle on public road without a car?
I plan to go as early as possible. Maybe even leaving from my Orlando hotel around 0800.

Any help and or suggestions welcome and much appreciated. This is my bucket list item and do not want to mess it up after flying halfway across the world to experience it.

I think my plan at the moment is to go to Jetty park and watch from the Fishlips Pavilion deck. That is about as close to the landing pad as you can get though it will be about 14 miles from the launch site. The same distance as exploration tower. They only charge for parking so if you have an Uber drop you off at the gate you could walk in for free (I'm pretty sure, bring cash just in case). Otherwise, anywhere along the 528 overpass, or along the 401 behind the cruise terminal will be great, as would the beach in Cape Canaveral.

If you get stuck, message me or some of the other people here, I'm sure we can work out a way to meet up and stick together. Good luck!

If you get a car, get on State Road 528 heading toward Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, The Space Center.  When you go through Cocoa, you come to Merritt Island.  Get off on the North Banana River Road exit (exit right).  Come to the stop sign.  Turn Left.  You will go across the exit and to your left front you will see an open field where you can.  On the other side of the road, there is a dirt road which you can walk (or drive) down which goes to the Bridge.  Set up there, face north and you will be able to see the pad across the river, projecting above the trees.  That's where I go and that's where I send people from out of town who don't know the area.

The first photo shows how to get to the viewing area I use (been using it since Apollo 7) and the second shows where to look.  I can't really be more precise about the place to look for the landing because they surprise the crap out of me every time I watch.

Hope this helps.

The idea of meeting the night before started so Chris Gebhardt could organize something and be involved since he won't be free the day of the launch as a journalist. Several days ago he posted he's still planning something, but suggested we keep talking and he'll update us when the launch date is better known, presumably after GovSat/SES.

Jakusb and probably some others won't arrive in time for 6pm the night before, and then there is the crowd who will be watching the launch from the Visitor Complex and might be staying where they are the following evening, but the rest of us might also want to be planning to meet again after the launch since it will be over relatively early. Maybe back at Fishlips? Hopefully that would be to celebrate together and analyze the success, and we're definitely going to need each other and want to analyze if there's an anomaly.

As far as a viewing spot goes.....what will the noisiest spot be ?
I'd like to experience the rumble, crackle, ground shaking and the sonic booms if at all possible.
This'll be my first 'dance'.............and is a definite bucket list item!
Probably driving down from Chicago 'burbs.
I'll find Fishlips for the pre-party for sure......and post party too!!

Depends on the weather and the wind direction.  Anyplace with a view can be good for the noise.

So the stars are aligning and it looks like this may be a real possibility. Airfare is dirt cheap right now but I'm hesitant to pull the trigger this far out. BUT if I wait the airfare MAY skyrocket... Wait til GovSat gets off the ground?

For public spots Playalinda beach will be the closest to the launch pad and so best for noise. Remember though that with this level of power and distance, being twice as far away will make 3db difference, so not very much. As said above, anywhere within 20 miles will get a great show.

Also, WRT Playalinda, you're trading being closer to the take-off for being further from the landing zone.

.... Exploration Tower is not yet selling....

Exploration Tower will not be selling tickets for the F9H launch on Feb 6th. They are hosting a private event (all day).

Well, I can't make it.  Wife has a doctors appointment on Feb. 6th.  Heart doctor.  She forgot about it until this morning.

That makes two of us in a way. We have pre-scheduled appointments that falls right in the window. To her credit she tried hard to find a way to work between or send me alone. Those who make it can raise a glass for us :'( Drinks are on Chris
