Congratulations, SpaceX!

Today's launch was utterly riveting.

I watched the first Saturn V, Apollo 4, launch from that very pad on a black & white TV when I was nine years old.

I can't say which launch was more exciting.  All I can say is that today my heart was pounding like a jackhammer during the last minute of the countdown, and I don't think I took a breath until the side boosters separated.
The Space Age is just starting to get interesting.

That was an “E” ticket. Awesome!  Thanks for the ride!  Congratulations seems like too small a word for this - but CONGRATULATIONS!!

The entire 4hour 39min Starman video is now available.  Previously it's been only a 2 hour loop.

Also, SpaceX has updated the launch video with the correct footage from both side boosters.

What a day!

Congratulations to SpaceX for all they've achieved, above all rekindling excitement in space! I had the pleasure of watching today's mission in person from 401, my first rocket launch and what a sight (and sound) to behold.

Thank you to all the super helpful SpaceX fans and space reporters of NSF and reddit for keeping us up to date and sharing viewing tips. Thanks to all the great folks that came out to watch in person and shared stories, binoculars and the feeling of being part of something bigger. And of course thanks to Elon and his team for daring to believe in something crazy!

Now that the mission is officially complete and a success I will extend my most enthusiastic congratulations to the entire SpaceX team for this magnificent launch.  Looking forward to future firsts for the Dragon2 and BFR!  Can't wait. Go Falcon 9, Go Falcon Heavy, Go Spacex!

Capturing this due to potential space policy implications, not for politics:

Time for my congratulations post on mission success.

Hmm, so aiming for a heliocentric orbit out as far as Mars’ orbit but ending up as far as the asteroid belt is apparently a success? Biggest successful overshoot in history? ;D

Incredible, unbelievable, amazing, inspiring, wow.

I think we can say that SpaceX got the world’s attention. Amazing shots of the roadster in front of our beautiful home. While I hope that the cheaper space access FH (and it’s successors) brings will have profound implications long-term, getting more people to dream and think differently about space may prove even more important.

Not too shabby for a demo.

Congrats to SpaceX for this amazing feat but what will a Falcon 9 launch with a single landing core look like now? :o

0.98 x 2.61 AU solar orbit with C3 (Earth) = 12.0 km^2/s^2

It seems that the solar orbit parameters and the C3 value reported above don't match:

Quote
So @elonmusk says aphelion is 2.61AU and C3 = 12, I can't make those numbers agree. C3=12 only gets me to 1.7 AU, I need C3=34 to get the orbit he reports... any of you other orbital mechanics out there have better luck?

It's about time for my congratulations to SpaceX (and to Musk personally as the driving force) for finally getting that bird off of the ground. A flawless flight apart from that one technical issue that should be relatively trivial to solve for next  time.

Like most people, I think that it was the sight of the two side-mounts landing in synch that really caught my eye.

Oh, and the Roadster reaching the Inner Main Belt! I think that this reminds us just how powerful this rocket is (and how light the payload is ;) )!
