Still has enough prop to do the TMI burn.  Will find out in a few hours if that burn is successful!

Core stage hit the water. Weren't going to reuse that stage. Second stage worked perfectly so far.

Musk says about Core landing, that for 3-engine landing burn, center engine lit but outer 2 did not, which is why Core didn't quite make it

Q: FH, what did it teach you?

Musk: That dreams can come true.  There a thousand things on a rocket that might not work.  And they all did. Seeing the two side boosters land, there's quite a scalable approach.  You can image a bunch of them coming in and landing and launching each day.  Gives Elon confidence that BFR is workable.

Propellant was in 0.3 sigma. Boosters look in good condition. Combination of versions 3 and 4. Will be flying version 5 in future. There won't be a version 6.

Thinks they can keep maturing the tech to achieve quick and rapid reuse.

two engines failed for the center core

side cores OK, reflyable but not to be reflown.. only going to be flying Block 5

No version 6 (he said version not block)

Q: What was going through your mind when you saw your roadsters up there?  How long for live views?

Musk: I think it look ridiculous.  You can tell it's real because it looks so fake.  And we have much better CGI.  (lots of laughs for that).  We didn't test to see if anything was spaceworthy.  It's literally just a car in space.

Normally for a new rocket, they'd launch a block of concrete.  That's boring.  Went with something that would make people excited around the world.

Q: Where do you see FH fitting in going forward.

Musk: It launch things direct to Pluto without gravity assists.  it can do anything you want. Talks about moon and orbital refueling.

Colours look weird in space. Everything looks too crisp. Didn't test materials for space. A normal car in space. Hotwheels made a Tesla Roadster. Friend of Elon suggested idea. Imagery gets people excited around the world.

Falcon Heavy can do anything you want. Recommends new BFR architecture. Encourage other countries and companies. FH developed from internal funds. We want a new space race. Space races are exciting.

Mainstream media keep asking how Elon felt... another one of these from Fox. Let Chris G ask one.
Elon  "Passing grade is 100%"

(Chris note: SpaceX were great to give Chris G special access with these mass media people, so it was always going to be questions from them, but they let Chris into the big boy room :) )

What needs to happen to cert FH for DoD?

Musk: Depends on which National Security agency.  It's not gonna be an impediment to National Security missions. Several FH flights per year planned.

A dozen FHs in three years time.

Irene from AWST talk about how much to certify and investment to this point
Elon" we have enough missions coming to get enough launches to certify"

B5 single stick in couple months. STP will be B5

investment to day more than I'd like to admit... tried to cancel it  it three times...

(over 1/2 billion)

For national security, the number of qualification flights depends on the mission. Have commercial customers in the future. STP mission is all Block 5. Single stick block 5 in couple of months. Investment a lot more than what we liked. Tried to cancel it three times because it was a lot harder than we thought. Had to redesign core and grid fins. Nose cone causes loss of control authority. Redesign thrust structure at base. Even the side boosters, a large number of changes. Over $500M development cost.
