Falcon 9 Viewing
« on: 11/14/2017 01:10 pm »
Hey Everyone!

I am an Airline Pilot by profession and watching a Falcon 9 launch from the view at 35,000ft was something I will never forget. After that I slowly started becoming a space geek. I hear that as far as Space geeks go, this forum is the best place to be :D

I've never been to a launch before on the ground. I plan to go and watch the Falcon 9 launch tomorrow with the Zuma payload. If you guys have a moment Iv'e got just a few questions:

What do you guys think the Zuma payload holds?
What is the probability of SpaceX actually launching tomorrow evening?
What is the BEST place to view not only the launch but the landing as well?

Thank you all!!

Hi and welcome! First yes, you're right about this site being the best for space geeks 8)
For zuma what is publicly known is that's a government mission, contracted to Northrop Grumman. As of late it seems SX has become much better at launching on time, even if there's always the chance of a scrub (consider that the last one was seven missions ago). If you want info about launch/landing viewing at the cape this site has everything you need to know: http://www.launchphotography.com/Delta_4_Atlas_5_Falcon_9_Launch_Viewing.html (zuma will launch from pad 39A)

Edit: forgot to mention that for further SpaceX/F9 info/discussion you may check the SpaceX section of the forum https://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php#c17

I'll add my welcome! That's a pretty excellent way to get interested. :)

As for odds tomorrow, I'll point to the Updates thread for the Zuma mission, and particularly the most recent post at this time, which is the current weather briefing

The mission update threads like that are the best place I find to keep an eye off-and-on during the day leading up to launch, and you can find the mission discussion thread for any related comments, questions, and answers (including mission speculation), and then there's the [urlhttps://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=42585.1220]Party Thread[/url] in case there's any exuberance which is too off-topic for even the discussion thread. ;)
