NSF SpaceX Iridium-2, Doubleheader Part Deux - Electric Boogaloo Landing Bingo

NSF SpaceX ASDS Landing Bingo returns for the second part of the already legendary Doubleheader Weekend!
We've barely caught our breath from the fraught but successful relanding of the Iridium-1/Bulgariasat-1 booster on OCISLY out in the Atlantic and now our attention is focused on the Pacific and JRTI where a brand new Iridium-2 booster is about to fly out of Vandenberg AFB hoping to NOT make its splash and make this weekend's double header a clean sweep! Only a 12 hour game this time, to honor the SpaceX goal of eventual same day reflights!

No shotgun start, the game is immediately open!
The game remains exactly as played in prior iterations. If its not broke don't fix it.

- JCSAT-14 (
http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=40219.0 )
Pick your square, one per player. Closest square to the center engine when it comes to a halt gets the prize!
This includes post landing walkabouts. No west coast robot to worry about moving the rocket this time.
No prize for fireballs, debris, or damage on deck!
If it hits the ship, goes kaboom, punctures holes in the deck, falls over in transit, or splashes down in the sea, there is no winner. Only a booster standing tall and triumphant as the ASDS sails into the harbor will generate a win!
Water squares are meaningless, if falls in the sea, no winners - no prize. Feel free to pick a water square just for "I told you so" bragging rights if you wish!

This thread remains the official record of who chose what square when. For that reason any edited pick post is invalid. First to claim a square gets it.
Use Dan's scraper to see which spots have gone:
Scraper HAS peen repointed to new thread. If it works, awesome, if not it will be old school thread reading to find open spots.http://asds.dansdoorway.com NOTE: There may sometimes be a slight delay of a few minutes at most between scraper updates, so check the last few posts before yours too, just to be sure. Thanks to DanielW for setting the scraper up, it helps a lot!
Judging is by me, Helodriver using imagery of JRTI sailing back into the harbor to help determine a winner. Rocketcams, helicopter or drone shots, and landing coverage will also be used, but where it sits at the time of unloading will be final. Post landing movements by robot if such a thing is possible, will definitely add a twist of uncertainty.

Winner gets a SpaceX artifact, which has been recycled from its original purpose into a suitable prize. Winner also gets a one year L2 membership for free. If a current L2 member, you can donate it to another member (or add it to your own term length).
Good luck SpaceX, Good luck Iridium-2, and Good luck to NSF readers!

Using the ALL link to load the whole thread in one page, Then searching with whatever "find" function your browser has helps. Not necessarily enough, as anyone looking at my posts in the Friday Bingo thread can see.

But it's faster than page-by page manually.

Easier just to hit the print button and then search the print version of the webpage for the number you picked. Works great with Chrome.

Probably going to be a day or so after the ASDS gets into port. Need to look at photos (Which don't yet exist) consult chicken entrails, etc. Two at more or less the same time probably won't speed things up any. Besides, I've
obviously got it this time. Both of them.

Here on NSF
never too late to enter L2.

(I brought mb on a really cool weekend getaway, but paddling to a little house on the bayou meant I was basically off-grid, which is why I was literally off-grid for this bingo. I dropped her off and made it home in time to watch the launch and landing live, just not quite in time to get a square. Of course, I already have L2, so it's all good.)

Well the wait is over! Iridium-2, Doubleheader Part Deux - Electric Boogaloo Landing Bingo has a winner and it took some close measurement to make the call.
From prior games and measurements its been determined that the booster's 60 foot leg span comes out to 7 squares on the bingo game grid. The question then is where to put that 7x7 larger square on the deck to determine the center point and winner.
When we get a drone or aerial shot to spot the rocket on deck or the star pattern of angle iron brackets welded down to secure the stage, that's easy. No such images surfaced this time and SpaceX has yet to honor our simple request to paint the ASDS game grid on the deck so it was time to use the rocketcam image and the just released on board ASDS superstructure camera shot to photogrammetrically determine the spot.
Through superimposing the rocketcam's last image over the game grid and rotating the image to line up with the center X and the yellow circle cutouts then correcting for wide angle perspective distortion and then using the superstructure shot to crosscheck and define the X-axis a winner could be determined.
That winner is
Daniels30 with square
K-25See the attached images and click on the .GIF file for an animated view of the lineup.
Congratulations Daniels30 and congrats to SpaceX for making something intrinsically difficult look easy!
A suitable SpaceX artifact prize will be dispatched in a few weeks.
Thanks for playing everyone and NSF SpaceX ASDS Landing Bingo will return!

Well why not!? I'm sure the grid would assist Octocrabby with her movement & location subroutines.
Besides, Falcon Heavy is going to be 3X the fun, we need those grids painted on both LZ's too.
Tell Chris it's time to cash in ALL of his favors & street cred to make this happen!

Grats Daniels30!
At least this time my square (J-24) got to rub elbows with the victor.
Hey, maybe there should be a Hollywood stars walk of fame to commemorate each successful landing. Could make for a nice poster.
edit: spelling.

A scattergram of all the landings would be super cool.
Also, I really think we fen are getting disrespected by SpaceX here. A simple grid to make this easy is really NOT an unreasonable request. They have to repaint it anyway. Get Octocrabby to do it...

Hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, and not sure if this is what you meant, but this is what popped into my head.
Did I miss any? I only plotted those that Helodriver declared a square. Iridium-1 was mentioned in a picture thread he posted.
Edit - Fixed K-25. Of course I mess up the one for this thread!
Edit 2 - Changed layout a little and fixed typo.

There's definitely a bias for the right side of the board! Wonder why? Any educated (or wildly speculative) guesses?

Interesting. Nothing below the 20 line.

I would hazard a guess that the barge is always oriented the same direction towards the prevailing winds so as the properly ride the waves. Hence a bias to land either a little up, or down wind.
Which direction have the prevailing winds tacked across the barge?

Exactly what I meant. Thanks! Interesting bias all right...

The barge is always turned end on to the prevailing waves (not wind but those are sometimes the same) I think. And the tow is at one end, the front of the barge (see a side view of a Marmac and it has a sloped front end (bow) and a more vertical stern) so that's the end sailing into the waves when under thruster power.
But I'm not sure which end is which in this diagram. An enterprising person could take a look at a drone shot from Port Canaveral that's high enough to show the lettering, but low enough to show which end is the stern, and that would give the answer I would think.
I could do it but I'm lazy. In true software architect fashion, I've sketched out a solution to your question. Implementation is an exercise left to others.

Based on the first photo
here of the hole punched by SES-9, it appears the stern is the right side of the diagram. So the landings seem to happen towards the aft
end half of the barge.

That far out I would think the prevailing wind and wave directions (probably the same but not always as Lar suggests) are pretty stable over time. It suggests that the rocket always seem to land downwind of center and can't completely compensate for the effect of wind on its location.

It would be interesting to get the wind speed and direction for each of those landings.

Yes but...
Except for SES-9, the "downwind" bias looks to be somewhat less than the scatter.
(I am sure an enterprising forum member can fit an assymetric distribution to the data to prove or refute that, but with an evolving system and few data points it's probably not worth it. )
Leaving the effect of wind uncompensated seems to be "good enough".
And we all know that "better is the enemy of good enough"
