Weir is the author of “The Martian,” which served as the basis for the Matt Damon movie of the same name. Kinberg and Sood also produced “The Martian.”

The only real evidence we have of that is that "The Expanse" novels (James S.A. Corey) mention a ship named Mark Watney. But that novel also mentions a ship named John Galt. Both are fictional characters in our universe (Galt is from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged".) That makes it more likely that Watney is a fictional character in the universe of "The Expanse" as well as in ours.

I haven't seen any other posts on this novel. Has anyone read it? I'm just about done. The protagonist on the lunar surface without a spacesuit in direct sun for three minutes and surviving almost unscathed was the final straw for me. Any other thoughts?

Yes I read it as soon as it came out. I really enjoyed it. IIRC, it was a lot less than 3 minutes, (going by memory, it's been several years since I read it), I got the impression it was a matter of seconds. I recall her injuries were basically burns from freezing, and she was anything but unscathed, spent a fair amount of time recovering in the sick bay as I recall.
