These engines don't have the new impellers. That means they  may not be as valuable (it would be a big teardown to retrofit I would think) as some might suspect.

So can we crowdfund a recovery effort and gift ChrisB with a used M1D for Christmas? 🎅🎄

I'm good for a fiver (or 5 Euros, or75,000 Indonesian Rupiah ... whatever it takes)

But I'm not sure his garden shed is big enough....

Engine might be too big.

Maybe a toasty grid fin?

Iridium employees take some time out from payload processing to work on team-building activities.

There's... uhh.. something developing on reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SpaceXMasterrace/comments/7ledab/this_ia_an_imge_ff_the_roadster_on_the_payload/
Are this Talulah Riley and Elon in the car?

Yes, photoshopped of course. I'm surprised the leak originated over there but considering what that subreddit is about, I guess I shouldn't be.

I can almost guarantee this is not accurate.  One of the goals of the first flight will be to prove out it's lift capability.  There is no way just a roadster is event close.  Even if that pedestal is solid steel, I don't thick that would even be close.

Maybe, in addition to the copy of Hitchhiker's Guide and the towel that are going to be in the car, they replaced the battery with an equal volume block of depleted uranium.

Elon just posted a pic of his roadster in the payload fairing;
https://www.instagram.com/p/BdA94kVgQhU/

However, I suggest reading his comment, which I pasted below, with bolding by me;
"elonmuskA Red Car for the Red Planet

Test flights of new rockets usually contain mass simulators in the form of concrete or steel blocks. That seemed extremely boring.
Of course, anything boring is terrible, especially companies
, so we decided to send something unusual, something that made us feel.
The payload will be an original Tesla Roadster, playing Space Oddity, on a billion year elliptic Mars orbit."

Read the bolded part, remembering that this is the guy who founded "The Boring Company".

I laughed myself silly when it clicked what he'd done here.  ;D

He's an internet prankster! ;D

What a frakking surge though. Remember when it was all about keeping the forum up? Got that sorted. Then tonight the news site got hit like never before....because of LA folk hitting space sites to work out what the launch was after finding out it wasn't a UFO. Crazy!

Thanks for keeping it together Chris. When I saw the first video post of what it looked like in the skies above LaLa land I thought folks are going to think crazy and say crazy and do crazy because thats what Los Angeles does. I was born there, I know. That's why I got the heck out of there.

One Falcon 9 (slightly used) ~ $60 million
Ten Iridium satellites ~ $350 million

Freaking out most of southern California - priceless!
