No. They are late, that's all.

Site is as busy as a SpaceX actual launch right now. Let's all keep the posts useful.

Chris will the SpaceX Announcement thread you made be live during the event or become a followup thread for discussion? Should we stick here or jump over there?

Yup @SpaceX is sending something/somone to the Moon

Confirmed @SpaceX and @ElonMusk will be announcing some sort of Moon mission in 5 minutes.

From NASAWatch twitter.

He has been talking to the POTUS lately and there are those rumors of Lunar flights.

Edit: Can FH reuse all 3 cores if it throws a Dragon 2 around the moon?
It was borderline on whether the center core could be caught downrange for Red Dragon's TMI. I would think a lunar free return TLI would be more likely to be recoverable.

If Dragon lands under parachutes, 3-core recovery should be easy. If they put Dragon on a diet it might even be able to land propulsively with 3-core recovery, though that would preclude going into lunar orbit of any kind.

New thread is for during and post announcement. This thread is for before the announcement.

It wouldn't surprise if one of them isn't James Cameron.

Holy s***. SpaceX says its going to send two people around the Moon in the 4th Q of 2018.
Quote
Two people would fly an approximately week-long mission in a “long loop” around the Moon, to about 400,000 miles from Earth.
Quote
If this happens in late 2018 or 2019, SpaceX would almost certainly one-up NASA's crewed Orion/SLS mission.
Quote
Elon Musk would not say who the people were, or how much they paid. Nor even give their gender. But no real astronauts will fly with them.

But will it go into orbit?

Edit: The schedule seems very tight for both the FH and Dragon 2 but if they are off even a year this maybe the most exciting 'real' news in space exploration in decades.

Starship, Vulcan and Ariane 6 have all reached orbit.  New Glenn, well we are waiting!
