Getting stuff into space sure is perdy.

What does a Falcon 9 booster do when it successfully delivers a SWOT satellite to orbit.....well it comes home of course and lands about 1400 ft from where it left to be reused again.

Does anybody know why the initial launch plane of #SWOT from Vandenberg as defined by areas A & B is inconsisten with the Falcon 9 upper stage deorbit area C and SWOT orbital plane?

As it turns out this is not in error, a big dog-leg has been/will be performed:

Does anyone have access to telemetry and tracking for this launch?
It seems we could learn a lot from it...

NASA SWOT Launch 16 DEC 2022

Quote
Dec 20, 2022
A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launches with the Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) spacecraft onboard, Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, from Space Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Jointly developed by NASA and Centre National D'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), with contributions from the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and United Kingdom Space Agency, SWOT is the first satellite mission that will observe nearly all water on Earth’s surface, measuring the height of water in the planet’s lakes, rivers, reservoirs, and the ocean.

Note: corrected version

It's Tony De La Rosa, ...I don't create this stuff, I just report it.

Good catch. There were two video posts from VSFB at the same time.  I initially thought there were duplicates but after posting I notice the video did not have the first stage landing, so I just substituted the second one and didn't bother to change the title or description.  There you are. Thanks.  It's now corrected

NASA's Launch Services Program (LSP) produced a really nice video tribute to Omar Baez upon his retirement, but NASA TV ops completely butchered the airing of it during the SWOT coverage.  Here is that segment (including an emotional Mr. Baez) posted separately by NASA KSC:
PSA #1:  Suppress forum auto-embed of Youtube videos by deleting leading 'www.' (four characters) in YT URL; useful when linking text to YT, or just to avoid bloat.
PSA #2:  Users who particularly annoy you can be suppressed in forum view via Modify Profile -> Buddies / Ignore List.  *** See profile for two more NSF forum tips. ***

Weird, the stream I happened to be (re)watching had the integral version of this, but checking the NASA archived feed now, yes, the start was cut off.  :-\

Anyway, I wish a pleasant retirement to Mr. Baez.
