Soyuz TMA Neptune operating instructions
« on: 06/26/2016 11:03 pm »
Hi,
I have recently discovered a very interesting simulator for the Soyuz TMA control system. It appears to be the genuine article...i.e. The actual software used by cosmonauts for training!

The simulator (Inpu.exe) appears to fully replicate all of the control system and allows manual re-entry etc. (I ran it using dosbox on my Windows 7 PC after initially failing to get it to work).

The simulator is available from http://astronaut.ru/bookcase/
As is expected it is ALL in Russian language.

I am seeking a Russian or English manual on how to operate the simulator. There are only very brief instructions on the above website.

Does anyone know of a training manual for the Soyuz TMA flight computer system?? I know that many NASA and ESA astronauts/cosmonauts have been trained in how to use this system. Therefore I guess some documentation must be readily available.

Thanks in advance from,
Henry.

There's something that might help you in L2.

Thanks Baldisi,

I will take a look.

I think the attached photo shows the books i'm chasing....not 100% certain though. They are apparently called "checklists" The ones i'm looking for are for the Soyuz TMA not the current TMA-M.

Thanks from,
Henry

The one on L2 I believe it is for TM.

Yes, you are correct that one in the subscription area is a superb Document describing the TM.

The document I am very keen to find is called Launch and Descent - «Выведение и Спуск» (Lime Green Cover). Hopefully I can then use the TMA simulator.

Alternatively I am keen on just the relevant pages from the manual showing interesting manoeuvres or decent....basically anything that helps with using the simulator.

Thanks from
Henry

I have watched the internet for the "bort books" for over a decade and tried getting them through FOIA - since NASA astronauts have copies when training for Soyuz missions. The results are that NASA does not have them or that they are "Proprietary" or ITAR controlled in terms of the best technical documents on the current incarnations of Soyuz.

The "Orbital Flight" (Light Blue) for Soyuz T-5 was in the auction world for for a few grand. I offered $100 for a photocopy before it was sold and was of course turned down.  The three you pictured were from Alex Panchenko who got them from Yuri Malchenko. I know who now owns the "Orbital Flight" from this set as well and similarly asked nicely and flashed a $100 bill for photos of the pages without success. All the photos online of the books are remarkably low resolution (maybe Roscosmos made a rule not to photograph them too closely).

PS) the INPU program and associated works of Yuri Tiapchenko are the best that have been released on the control panels, although I have put a few things I put together on the Soyuz-TMA in L2.

Thanks for your reply. Sounds like they are unobtanium!

It is a shame that they aren't available. The Soyuz program is such an impressive achievement and yet widely under appreciated perhaps due to a lack of understanding and available documentation.

Kind regards,
Henry

Looks like the green Soyuz "TM" book is on ebay!
eBay item number:371004816347
The photos are reasonable..it is the TM not the TMA that I was after....

(Note: this isn't my auction. I am not linked to the seller in any way.)
