This is in response to Erik's post in this thread so I apologize that it is offtopic here, but if any one here uses the STSPLUS tracking program, you may find these steps useful to predict launch windows for the shuttle going to the ISS.
Erik, press F10 in STSPLUS and then F1 to select a city northeast of KSC. Type in New York, and select it. When you are done, press enter until you are at the main menu, then make sure you have selected to track the ISS as your primary satellite by pressing F2 at the main menu and selecting the ISS from your two-line elements. Now here is the key, set your simulated time by pressing F8 at the main menu, then press F3 and set the time to 0:00 and the date to October 25, 2006. When you are done, go back to the main menu and press F3 for pass predictions and look for the best pass that travels northeast (it will be southeast to your selected city of New York so look under the azm. column for a reading close to between 130* - 140* degrees), it should be the 4th pass. Select this pass by entering the pass number (in this case type "4" and press "enter" and you will see the iss just recently pass over KSC heading northeast). This is the pass NASA will use to open the launch window around October 25th. Hope this information is useful to you.

They can test in the VAB as well as the pad

maybe even flying debris from the TS...
There is more risk of this at the pad. The VAB isn't that "flimsy"

I think they're dead wrong and being WAY WAY WAY too conservative. We'll see tomorrow...
Hindsight is 20/20. Better safe than sorry
Then it is a waste to cover all this hardware as shown in the link

To foment means to stir up or brew bad weather according to Murphy's Law. We got to figure out a way to repeal Murphy's Law so tha Atlantis STS-115 could liftoff by Sept. 8, 2006. Keep your fingers crossed and let hope Murphy's Law is not enforced. I, Gerald, very much want to see P3/P4 attached to P1 is ISS. It could pave the way for the construction of a big space ship in low earth orbit that will take humans to Jupiter system or Saturn system for exploration like is Star Trek,s USS Enterprise.

they should be able to launch before the 8th, huh? assuming they roll back out three days from now, they might JUST be able to make it, right?

If they roll back out on Friday, that is sept 01, it takes 8 days to get the ship ready on the pad ( I heard them say during many press briefings), so then it would be sept 09..and that is to late...(I think)...So lets hope the Storm passes with no damage, so that they can Roll out in the night of Thursday, then they could launch on the 7th of Sept...

Cut-off date is the 7th, not the 8th.

And that would require real-time management... MMT dont work that way...

DANGIT! well, we'll see them in October! that ET should be nice and burnt by then, lol.
but then again, they may decide to let 115 go at night! afterall, 115 wasn't originally under that guideline--SOMETIMES, the mmt goes back on their word...
um, i think i have TOO much confidence...

I'm very angry with the decision not to delay Soyuz TMA9.
I have nothing against the Russians, but it is a disgrace that they are not helping. This stinks of ensuring Space Adventures get their paying customers launched on time.

I'm angry with the Russians too. Otherwise, I wouldn't have called them-- Oh wait, that message has been deleted. Oops. Have fun in space, Ansari! I'm sure Brent Jett and Co. are wishing you a safe and fun flight.

Hold on.
The talks are still on going, it's just NASA noting they don't look hopeful. However,
If you were Roskosmos and you had NASA saying "Hey, can you move the launch date of your Soyuz?" and got the rationale of "We might be able to launch after the 7th, but we don't know, cause of lighting, could go either way," what would you do?
It seems to me NASA did neither force the issue, or give clear rationale. You only have to listen to that phone conference to see how it all appears to have transpired.

Based on history, tomorrow will be a overcast day at KSC, with no winds near 40 kts never mind 40 mps.. the storm will heading out west.. so maybe just maybe, MMT will think of moving back to the pad in the morning..
