Huge congrats to all involved. I set my alarm but slept through it.

My 2 year old loves to watch the launch and immediately asks to see it land on boat. couldn't get his head around other rockets not landing like that.

He also then wants it to launch right from the boat after landing.

Amazing world my kids are growing up in.

My kid (same age) woke up in the middle of the night just in time to watch the launch. He always beams whenever he sees liftoff or touchdown.

Now that was a hover slam! View from the OSCILY at 8:38 into the flight and the deck is clear and when the smoke clears at at 8:41 the stage is just standing there rock solid.

Congratulations SpaceX! I watched the launch and landing live. Can not describe the feeling when the screen froze (video from OCISLY stopped due to vibration) and the next thing I see is the landed stage sitting there. Wonderful job!

I had a dream...
...last night
...that I was walking the streets of Orlando at night, next to the launch pad (yes, I know, ludicrous) and had missed the launch (somehow), but they had setup searchlights at the landing site (yes, I know) and were illuminating the rocket that was about a mile up at that point. I got to watch it for about a minute or so. Pretty awesome.

And then I woke up, and kicked myself for not having watched the launch live last night. But I figured, well, what's the chance that with all of the troubles with super-cooled oxygen that they got it off?

Well. Oops.

Last night I had a dream.
And SpaceX made it real.

This time the launch happened during lunch time on this part of Earth and I watched while eating at Starbucks. I actually thought that the 1st stage was slowly tipping over when all lights went out (without sound as I was watching the technical webcast), then suddenly like a scene from a David Copperfield show the 1st stage magically appeared and I made a loud murmur of "WHAT THE..." that luckily didn't cause any head turning!

Seeing the F9 beating the Shuttle as the best performing half-reusable rocket to geosynchronous transfer orbit (*) this time around really makes me put my thumbs up. For the X-team, please keep it up and make launches and landings "boring" over the next months!

(*) I don't think the Shuttle has put more than 4.6 tonnes of GSO bound payload in its missions carrying comsats. Someone might be able to check if this is correct...

Ok, not to be a party pooper, but reacting to report to mods.

Let's remember this is the update thread. We do allow the congrats posts, as it's a nice touch, but we do need to remember to quote posts in this thread and reply using the discussion thread.

PS The value of this format (though crappy for server loads during massive demand events) is showing its worth. Lots and lots of reads after the event as people who couldn't stay up catch up with what happened.

Anyhoo, as above. Updates, Discussion, ASDS, Party. We have something to tickle everyone's fancy

Wow, just wow! Congrats to all involved. This was by far the most impressive/difficult landing yet. Couldn't believe it when I saw her sitting there standing tall and pretty. Although my GF wasn't too happy that I woke her up just before 2am screaming

The satellite deployed its solar arrays on schedule following its launch aboard a Falcon 9 launch vehicle provided by SpaceX and will begin firing its main thruster in order to start maneuvering into geostationary orbit tomorrow.
