Will this be a 6 hour flight to ISS or a 2 day flight... not sure if it will be a conflict with Docking if Dragon also will be docking if this is a two day flight to ISS.

MEDIA ADVISORY M16-031

Russian Space Station Cargo Ship Launch, Docking to Air on NASA TV

NASA Television will provide live coverage of the launch and docking of an unpiloted Russian cargo spacecraft, Progress 63P, to resupply the International Space Station.

Launch of the spacecraft carrying three tons of food, fuel and supplies for the Expedition 47 crew is scheduled for 12:23 p.m. EDT (10:23 p.m. Baikonur time) on Thursday, March 31, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. NASA TV coverage will begin at noon.

Progress 63P is scheduled to dock to the aft port of the Zvezda Service Module at 2 p.m. on April 2. NASA TV coverage of rendezvous and docking will begin at 1:15 p.m. This will be the second of three cargo ships that will arrive at the station in as many weeks, flanked by Orbital ATK’s Cygnus craft and SpaceX’s Dragon vehicle.

The two-day rendezvous for the Progress is deliberately planned to enable Russian flight controllers to test new software and communications equipment for the new vehicle configuration that will be standard for future Progress and piloted Soyuz spacecraft.

The ISS Progress 61 cargo vehicle, currently docked at the aft port of the Zvezda Service Module, will depart the station on Wednesday, March 30. Its undocking will not be broadcast on NASA TV. Loaded with trash, the older Progress will be used for engineering tests before it is deorbited on Friday, April 8 to burn up over the Pacific Ocean.

The new Progress will spend more than six months at the station before departing in mid-October for its deorbit into the Earth’s atmosphere.

The NASA Television schedule is available at:

It's certainly a mistake to assume that the Soyuz doesn't vent out LOX vapors a lot (just like a certain SoCal born kerolox rocket do).  ;)

It looked to be prerendered, not based on live telemetry. Still, with real-time gaming graphics as good as they are nowadays, it would be pretty nice (and 100% possible) to have a photoreal external view with motion based on telemetry.

Today’s ‪#‎Progress‬ launch occurred about 5 minutes before we passed over the launch site in Baikonur. Sunset occurred for us about a minute later and shortly after we caught site of the rocket ahead and below us from the Cupola. We continued to catch up to it until it was directly below. We saw the flash of 3rd stage ignition and the subsequent 3rd stage was spectacular. Here are some of the best shots taken from the International Space Station. (note the one taken just after the moment of engine cutoff!)

Spectacular!

…and fresh fruit is on the way!!

On the cargo manifest published by TsUP, there is a reference to a nano-satellite named ГПУ-120 Томск. Is there any other information about this sat?

Yes, on the first page of this thread ! :D
I found different names of the subsatellite
GPU-120 Tomsk and TPU-120 Tomsk.
I think TPU is right (Tomsk Polytechnic University).

I noticed guys running in front of the pad cam at about 40 seconds after launch.  They don't waste any time!

I'm guessing this was a "twilight phenomenon" late into the ascent...

I wonder how to dispose of them though - there is no atmosphere so destructive reentry is off the table, and sending them to the Earth for reentry sounds like a waste of fuel (and thus cargo capacity).

How about just a intentional crash into the lunar surface? Would not be much different from how they are gotten rid of now sans the atmosphere.

Surface contamination? You can't be sure what does or doesn't survive such crash. This is obviously not a problem for the Earth, but it could be for the Moon.

The Moon is Planetary Protection Category II.  That basically means you have to have a plan to avoid hitting anything important, and document that plan and where the hardware ended up, but do not have to implement any particular planetary protection requirements.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_artificial_objects_on_the_Moon.  What they need to do is designate a particular crater as the dumping ground, rather than scattering stuff all over the place as they currently do.

But isn't this off topic for the Progress going to the ISS?

Fascinating attempt at seeing the Progress...  Just had a zenith pass of the ISS and trailing behind was a rapidly flashing object, off track at a slightly higher inclination or so it appeared, that caught up to and passed the ISS at a stunning rate.  Could not believe it's crossing rate in the sky.  The third stage?

It appears the Russian crew has sleep shifted due to the arrival of the Progress late in their usual crew day. The morning DPC with Moscow just occurred with no update on the Progress.

A gentleman to explain what is all the telemtry we can see on the onboard Progress camera ?

At the bottom left is range (rho in km) and range rate (rho dot in m/s or m/c in Russian). omega x, y and z at the top right are angle rates (degrees per second), possibly between ISS and Progress. Then we have three angles, and then two angles (psi~ and g~). Not sure what they measure, but probably the angles between ISS and Progress. The bottom right values are Omega y and z. I don't know what these are, but Omega might mean some difference value. At very top right is Time (hours:minutes:seconds).

Why is it that Russian cargo freighter threads like this are bumped back to the Russian section after docking has been completed, while the threads of US Cygnus cargo freighters remain in the "live" section?

Why is it that Russian cargo freighter threads like this are bumped back to the Russian section after docking has been completed, while the threads of US Cygnus cargo freighters remain in the "live" section?

Maybe because:
1. Progress ships are parked for a far longer time than the other logistics ships
2. more "stuff" happens with the flights of the other ships while everyone expect the Progress to work
3. people don't note them much given the quarterly flight frequency?

As someone who have been fighting against Progress discrimination here, maybe I can ask around for other opinions.....

I would like to see all the ISS cargo missions by any type of freighter be at least cross-referenced in the ISS section itself. Even after a few years on this site, and with my poor computer-skills to boot ::), I find the endless number of threads to be overwhelming. Over at the space-policy section the comments seem to all spill over thread-lines no matter what the nominal topic; I'm never sure where to post my humble opinions because they don't always seem to fit the exact parameters of the subject-lucky for their readers!
I want more coverage in general about the international activities on ISS, what the partners are up to...we get daily updates, which are great BTW, on the US segments but very little about what's going on in the Russian segment, unless I just don't know where to look! Thanks! Free Progress!

It is not only Progress.
We see very little about the Russian activities onboard ISS. Photos of Russian cosmonauts are very rare. Sometimes it looks that there are only US astronauts onboard. I know for sure that are a lot of photos with cosmonauts (alone) or together with astronauts exist. NASA should publish them too.
Back to Progress: About every Dragon and Cygnus craft we see pictures of the docking. About Progress MS-02 docking I've seen none.

Quarterly Progress dockings? I think I read somewhere that Roscosmos is reducing them to 3 per year due to financial reasons. Have they reversed their decision, or did I read wrong?

Assuming that one day both Dragon and Cygnus are capable of reliably launching on time at the first attempt, then with two series of US cargo freighters in service the need for Progress missions might well decline.   Or maybe Progress will supply the Russians and the US freighters will supply the Americans on ISS.

Only Progress can now re-fuel ISS. I don't know how fast ISS uses up this particular item, but that's always going to dictate a certain flight rate.

Or maybe Progress will supply the Russians and the US freighters will supply the Americans on ISS.

Looking at the available manifests for the US and Russian supply vehicles makes it pretty clear that the respective vehicles almost exclusively resupply the segment, and crews, they dock to.  One recent Cygnus or Dragon listed only 20 pounds of "Russian Cargo."  Listening to Cosmonaut transfer updates to the US segment after a Progress docking indicate US cargo is similarly rare on Russian spacecraft.  One interesting note during a cargo ops transfer conference today.  Most of the items were EDV-Us (yed a vay oohs) used primarily in the US and Russian toilets.  They were all stored in the FGB indicating they were Russian cargo.  Alternatively, both toilets are of Russian design and the pool of components for both may be kept in the Russian segment for "political correctness."

edit:  case in point from this Dragon mission out of 3800 pounds of pressurized cargo "Russian Hardware 72.7 lbs. / 33 kg"

Three pics of the Progress MS-2 docking (posted by Jeffrey Williams).

PS remark: when answering to a post using the "quote" button, it is not possible to add pictures. I first typed my text and posted my reply, and then used "modify" button to add the pics. Can this be changed?

You need to click the "Preview" button (bottom right) rather than "Post" once you've typed your text into the quick reply box.  This brings up the full set of tools for creating posts, including the ability to attach pictures.

Progress MS-02 ends its mission

Progress MS-02 departed the ISS on October 14, 2016. The undocking command was issued at 12:37 Moscow Time (5:37 a.m. EDT) and the cargo ship parted with the station a minute and a half later.

The mission control in Korolev then began deorbiting operations. The spacecraft was programmed to begin the braking maneuver at 15:50 Moscow Time (8:50 a.m. EDT) to reenter the Earth's atmosphere. According to estimates, surviving debris of the cargo ship were to impact a remote part of the Pacific Ocean at 16:39 Moscow Time (7:39 a.m. EDT).
