Just want to say major MAJOR congratulations to SpaceX! FINALLY we have true First Stage downrange recover ability! I honestly did not think they'd EVER get it to work with the drone barge certainly not this soon, bravo! Huge technical achievement by all the teams there. Just wanted to give a big thank you to all the SpaceX teams and NASA for pushing the envelope on this stuff, I really want to have a chance at going to Mars one day, and each technical challenge that is overcome the closer we get to the goal of mass space travel for the public. Huge day for respectability.

Also a big congratulations to NASA and Bigelow for successfully orbiting BEAM and to SpaceX for a successful Dragon RTF. ISS desperately needed that cargo capacity back and hopefully now the pace of flights can pick up a bit.

All of this is also one more step towards commercial crew, the sooner that starts the better. I can't wait!

Elon expects about half landings to be ground, half ocean.

[Hans said 1/3, 2/3 in pre-launch presser I believe]

3rd mission from now probably land landing.

Still looking at improved performance in the future with a goal of improving margin to convert barge landings to land landings.

Offline Chris Bergin

Elon: Two more ASDS landings ("two tough ship landings"), then one back to land....the third one from now.

Elon thinks 10 or 20 re-uses for a first stage. 100 with minor refurbishment

BEAM to be installed the 15th to 16th, inflation around May 26th.  High sun angle around that time prevents visiting vehicles, good time to do inflation.

BEAM installed around the 15th. "Inflation" - 26th of May.

By the way, the berthing and berthed mission updates will be a new thread :)

I think Hans said the next RTLS landing attempt would be the next CRS flight?

Sigh. This guy needs to not get invited back to any more NASA Socials. This current questioner.

LEO is the ocean, not an island (let alone a continent). We create cruise liners to ride the oceans, not artificial islands in the middle of them. We need a physical place, which has physical resources, to make our future out there.

Did Hans just throw on the first thing he could find in his closet?  It is like NASA Suit Tie, Elon I am a billionaire and I can wear anything I want and then Hans wearing what looks like a SpaceX sweat top.

It's a t-shirt with a SpaceX track jacket by American Apparel. This is standard-dress for people in California software startups. I have several of them with different company logos.

Presser ends.

Offline Chris Bergin

Elon confirms he'll give an overview on his BFR/MCT/City On Mars plans at the IAC in Mexico. "It's going to seem crazy"

True Dat. ;D

Great work everyone! Only an Elon presser can ensure so many people are taking the quotes for the coverage! Much appreciated!

Thanks to all, especially Steven's launch coverage!

I'm off for a drink ;D

I just found is strange considering the other press conferences I have seen with Hans he is usually wearing a suit-tie.  You usually don't dress that down from your customer, in this case NASA.  Maybe I am old school but doesn't look very professional and he isn't in California.

He may have spilled a drink on his suit in the excitement and had to change quickly.  ;)
