Falcon 9 1.0 rocket & Mvac 3D models
« on: 10/26/2015 01:29 pm »
Hey there guys, I hope I am not getting annoying!  :-\

So, I've been working on a Falcon 9 1.0 rocket recently, and I am running a bit short on information, or general images of Falcon 9s upper stage, and its Merlin 1C (Mvac). So far, I have the Merlin 1C and all other components done, but those two are some things I am still lacking of real information, and I hope someone can help me there.

M1C:

Falcon 9:

Current Mvac:

I have found those images of the Mvac:

And for the upper stage:

Yeah, and some more images, which aren't really helpful. Regarding the upper stage, how is its RCS/ACS setted up? Four draco thrusters, but they also seem to provide ullage, so how are they arranged?

Any help or information would be highly appreciated!

Kind regards,
KK, a big SpaceX fan! :)

(@Moderators: I didn't want to reply in the shopping list thread, it seems more to be like a "calendar thread", and I wasn't sure if this would get enough attention there... )

There are no Dracos on the Falcon

Hm, ok, I must have misread something then. Though I still would like to know how this is arranged. ;)

Americans who have knowledge of such things are prohibited by law from discussing them with you, I'm sorry to say. Launch vehicles and large rocket engines fall under Category IV of ITAR's Munitions List, and under Section 120.17 it is prohibited to disclose controlled technical data to or perform a "technical service" on behalf of a non-US person with respect to such export-controlled technology.

Well...ok. :| Is there at least anyone who knows some good images on the internet? Even that would be already helpful.

According to the 2009 Falcon 9 User Guide, the second stage does have 4 Draco thrusters. Now this user guide predates the first F9 flight, so it's possible that this was just a planned configuration and not one that has actually flown.

In my search for data for my 1:144 F9 model parts, I haven't come across many good images of the second stage. I have a few high-res photos of the entire stack which were useful for the exterior layout of the second stage, but the only Merlin Vacuum photo I've seen is of a separate nozzle.

This one's a pretty good view of the 1.0 upper stage - high res, well-lit, etc:

Here's another angle, but again the cradle is in the way of most of it:

I'd go to the launch video of the 2nd stage and get some screen grabs.  You can pick up small details.  Videos are a wealth of knowledge.  You just need to focus on what your looking for.

You might be redoing work done by others.
this is the "search engine" in the 3D modeling world (models from all over the world).  Play with the search, lots of good stuff available.
