SLS Heavy Model
« on: 09/01/2015 10:47 am »
Here's my interpretation of what the SLS heavy might look like if it ever flies. I used my old scratchbuilt Saturn V launch tower (modified in Photoshop to try and disguise the fact) for illustrative purposes only.

1/144 scale.

That is pretty amazing!!  The photos look awesome.  Do you have any construction photos?

I am still hoping Revell does a plastic kit....or Airfix.

Should the tops of the new SRBs not angle in (as in the european A5?)

Thank very much Ronpur. Afraid I don't have any construction photos. Mainly just a bunch of tubes with Evergreen stringer sections. The conical sections were the hardest. The top cone was made from a truncated Revell 1/96 Apollo CM topped with a 1/48 Dragon CM tip. Wouldn't hold your breath for a mainstream kit manufacturer releasing a kit as this SLS version is tentative at best and won't fly until 2026!!!

No, the SRBs are just extended shuttle SRBs. Instead of 4 segments they will have 5 segments. Even if NASA gets the budget for liquid boosters they don't look to be much different to the SRBs.

If a kit is released at all, I am sure our after market model makers can come up with the needed extra parts to do this version.

Absolutely beautiful - even though I'm not a great SLS fan.
Han shot first and Gwynne Shotwell !
