Quick question:

Why is the top of the stage covered ? I thought it is the interstage which holds the engine nozzle of the second stage. It should be hollow, at least to some depth. For a picture, see this post:

There is an attachment inside the interstage that the crane attached to. Presumably this is a standard attachment used for handling the stage when it is not mated. Perhaps someone else can provide more detail about the attachment itself.

I can't provide more detail past the fact that this is exactly how they handle the stages at their testing facility in MacGregor, as far as we can tell from photos.  So whatever that beanie cap and internal attachment is, its use is not new to the landed stage.

My guess is that it gives some rigidity to the interstage so that when the crane lifts it, the interstage doesn't distort/crack/fail.

You can see one version of this attachment "cap" to the top of the interstage. It's seen in the first image under (behind) the booster. I've focused in on it - the blue circular frame. It has three attachment points that must interlock with the corresponding three points at top of interstage as clearly shown in the second image.

How?

A good SLR can do that. You just need to be there and have one with you.  ;D

Photoshop/GIMP/Pixelmator/even Instagram - they can all do selective depth of field effects. Personally I'd have just drawn a red circle around the blue frame, but that's me.

I used the built in effects in Tapatalk, which doesn't have drawing objects, so I used what tools I had at hand. However I don't think this thread is about photo annotating... 🤔

Had been wondering what that was. Enlarged:

Thanks for the helpful replies, I was totally thrown off by the color of the cap. It just looks the same as the booster. I (wrongly) assumed that it was flying with the rocket. It is mounted after landing by the crane and makes total sense that way.

That means, the interstage must be pretty dirty and sooted up from the inside from the second stage exhaust. The rocket cleaner will have a hell of a job..

Landed Falcon 9 rolling to SLC-40

That's interesting. I thought they were going to use it for testing the gse and the pad at LC-39A.

How do we know it's going to SLC 40?

Good call moving this to the discussion area mods.

That's why I posted that it was claimed to be moving there. I shouldn't have done it in the update thread though.

Any ideas what is happening? Maybe this is an old one from the landing pad to LC-39A?

The rocket is still dirty and it is posted by someone who's only other post was one asking if they had been banned. I think this is just an old picture of it going to LC39A that someone reposted for the hell of it.
