Wow, fancy seeing the NASA KSC channel posting footage of a non-NASA launch. From the VAB roof, I'd say:

And the landing!

I'll be getting that tweeted, Jay. And a reminder to all (as much as I'm breaking the rule here ;D) the tradition is we have an update thread that's all updates right through to mission success. Then we let loose with a congratulations post each (for whoever wants to...) and then we go back to updates. We have several threads per mission (will be setting them up for the next missions over the holidays), but yeah it's the tradition to allow a relaxation in the aftermath of a launch.

So the discussion that follows now is best in the....drum roll....wait for it....discussion thread for this mission. Did a split n' merge for the back end of this thread (no posts were harmed in making of that merge) into the discussion thread. I know I missed some, but it's the above video is a good one for here, the rest continue in the discussion thread as a cut off point.

I could have gotten that across with about 50 percent less words than the above, so I'll shut up now! :)

I hear those things are awfully loud. It glides as softly as a cloud. What's it called? Monowhale!

I'll add my belated congrats to SpaceX/Mars colonization. I am nursing two broken ribs and a (healed) brain bleeding, but damn if it would hinder my watching the webcast!

Image is fine, use an IPS display. Linked the version at (from the flickr photo stream, couldn't find the larger version used above) without having details on the upper part of the rocket washed out.

I think it depends more on your preference for display gamma setting than your display’s black level. I’m actually on a 1440p CRT with black levels that beat global-backlight IPS, but I nevertheless found that brightened image helpful.

Attached is, hopefully, a version that everyone can agree on – just using the “equalize” option in the GIMP brightens it up a bit without washing anything out.

Mods: Feel free to move all these image-brightening posts to the discussion thread.

This is a great pic! I am fascinated by the stuff revealed with the raceway cover removed. It's possible it's just the exposure of the photo, but it seems pretty sooty under that cover, which is surprising.

These are some of the most moving 'actual' images I have seen lately. Thank you. They are now on my desktop. Apologies to the moderators, but a "like" on the post is insufficient to cover it.  Feel free to message me privately or delete the post if it is against rules.

Edit/Lar:  Yes, they're awesome. but you can cross post your approval to the discussion thread... it takes a bit more work but it keeps the update thread for updates. (the one congratulatory post notwithstanding) Thanks.
