Preparations for the 27th launch of the Soyuz-ST rocket continue in French Guiana

01/14/2022 16:08

In the Guiana Space Center (French Guiana), the Soyuz launch complex resumed work as part of the twenty-seventh launch campaign to launch the Soyuz-ST launch vehicle with the next batch of spacecraft from the OneWeb satellite company.

From January 15, 2022, in accordance with the schedule, work begins on refueling the propulsion systems of the upper stage "Fregat" produced by the Scientific and Production Association named after S.A. Lavochkin with compressed gases and propellants. The work is carried out by specialists from the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities and NPO Lavochkin (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation).

Work on the preparation of the Soyuz-ST rocket, as well as technological systems and assemblies of a set of technological equipment for the launch complex for receiving the launch vehicle will begin on January 20, upon the arrival of specialists from the V.P. Barmina (a branch of TsENKI) and the Progress Rocket and Space Center (part of the State Corporation Roscosmos).

To ensure the stay of Russian personnel in French Guiana, an administrative and technical group has been organized. The daily activities of Russian specialists are organized in compliance with all epidemiological requirements for the non-proliferation of coronavirus infection established by the Government of the French Republic and the Prefecture of French Guiana.

“Soyuz in the Guiana Space Center” is an international space project of the Roscosmos State Corporation, the European Space Agency, the French National Center for Space Research and the cooperation of leading companies in the rocket and space industry of Russia and France. As part of the project, TsENKI specialists in Guiana built a special launch complex for Soyuz-ST launch vehicles. Since the first launch on October 21, 2011, 26 Soyuz-ST missile launches have already been carried out.

In contrast, here is its sibling SL0042 over the same time period at an equal zoom. I don't know if the sinusoidal pattern is an artifact of the SGP4 averaging model or real stationkeeping, but the behaviour is clearly different

But if we compare the resulting precession rate (blue points) with the rates you'd get if all the sats were at the same inclination (red line) it's clear that there is an improvement.

Over 30 OneWeb satellites delivered to Kourou spaceport for launch atop Soyuz rocket.

The next step is to prepare the spacecraft at the technical compound of the European spaceport.

17 JAN, 07:05

MOSCOW, January 17. /TASS/. Over 30 British OneWeb communications satellites were delivered to the Kourou spaceport in French Guiana for launch atop a Russian Soyuz-ST-B carrier rocket in February, Russia’s State Space Corporation Roscosmos announced on Monday.

"A new batch of OneWeb spacecraft was delivered to the Guiana Space Center as part of Mission 34. The next phase of work is to prepare the spacecraft at the technical compound of the European spaceport, the statement says.

On January 15, specialists of the Lavochkin Research and Production Association and the Center for Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities Operation (both integrated into Roscosmos) began filling the Fregat upper stage propulsion systems with compressed gases and fuel components, it said.

"The Soyuz-ST-B rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 34 OneWeb spacecraft is scheduled to launch on February 10, 2022," Roscosmos specified.

CEO of the commercial launch operator Glavkosmos (part of Roscosmos) Dmitry Loskutov earlier told TASS that seven launches of British OneWeb communications satellites were scheduled for 2022. The first launch was scheduled to take place from the Guiana space center (the Kourou cosmodrome) in February, he specified.

British OneWeb low-orbit satellites are designed to create a space-based communications system to provide high-speed Internet access in any locality worldwide. Currently, the OneWeb orbital cluster comprises 394 satellites. All of them were orbited by Russian Soyuz carrier rockets.

Dirty shenanigans with the Indian government thanks to the Bharti connection. Denying Starlink a license while letting the inferior Oneweb operate freely.

I'm astonished you're reacting like this would be a surprise.

The Indian government - whose leading political party is the very Hindu Nationalist BJP - is apparently favouring an Indian-owned company over a foreign-owned private corporation. This is entirely in keeping with the Indian government's "Buy India" and "Make India" policies, and was widely expected.

I anticipate there will be soon be announcements of Indian-built ground station equipment and probably OneWeb satellites - India certainly has the research and industrial capacity. This was inevitable as soon as Bharti Airtel became OneWeb's largest shareholder

Well, then the US should similarly prohibit OneWeb from doing business in America.

Not likely, considering the OneWeb satellites are built in Florida.
