The 14th launch for the Baikonur cosmodrome took place
12/27/2021 16:20
Today, December 27, 2021, at 16: 10: 37.088 Moscow time, the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb spacecraft were launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome as part of mission 37. For 2021 this launch was the 24th launch of Russian space rockets and the 14th from Baikonur.
According to telemetry information, the lift contact, the rocket flight, the separation of the stages and the orbital block were fully completed in the normal mode. Then the upper stage "Fregat" continued to launch 36 vehicles into the target circular orbit. Within 3.5 hours, OneWeb satellites, in accordance with the flight sequence, will alternately separate from the Russian "accelerator" developed by the S.A. Lavochkin (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation).
The engines of the launch vehicle also worked in the normal mode, including the engines of the RD-107/108 family of the first and second stages, developed at the Scientific and Production Association "Energomash" named after Academician V.P. Glushko (part of Roskosmos), and the third stage RD-0124 engine, created at the Voronezh rocket propulsion center (part of the integrated rocket propulsion structure, headed by NPO Energomash Roskosmos).
With this launch, the OneWeb low-orbit constellation will increase by another 36 satellites and reach 394. This launch was the twelfth one within the OneWeb program, the third from Baikonur in 2021 and the fifth from this cosmodrome as a whole. The work is being carried out under a contract between Glavkosmos (part of Roskosmos) and Arianespace and Starsem.
The Soyuz-2 launch vehicle was developed on the basis of the Soyuz-U serial rocket. The lead developer is the Progress Rocket and Space Center (part of Roskosmos). The missiles of the Soyuz-2 family are equipped with improved propulsion systems and modern control and measurement systems, which increase their technical and operational characteristics.
Structurally "Soyuz-2", like all missiles of the "Soyuz" family, is made according to the scheme of longitudinal-transverse division of rocket stages. In combination with the Fregat upper stage, it is designed for launching spacecraft into low-earth orbits of various heights and inclinations, including geo-transfer and geostationary orbits, as well as departure trajectories.

Roscosmos launched 318 OneWeb satellites in 2021
12/27/2021 20:57
On Monday, December 27, 2021, at 16:10:37 Moscow time, the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb spacecraft were launched from the launcher No. 6 of the site No. 31 of the Baikonur cosmodrome ... This launch is already the twelfth one within the OneWeb joint program.
The sequential separation of nine groups of spacecraft from the Russian upper stage took place in accordance with the cyclogram. During the autonomous flight, eleven active sites were provided: three activations of the propulsion system (the latter for the purpose of delivering the upper stage to the "withdrawal orbit") and eight activations of the propulsion system for stabilization, orientation and launch support necessary for the safe separation of satellites.
Foreign customers of the company "Glavkosmos" (part of Roscosmos) confirmed the fulfillment of contractual obligations. All devices are accepted for communication by the customer. Upon completion of the disengagement and separation of spacecraft, the Fregat upper stage will be de-orbited, and non-combustible elements will be flooded into the uninhabited part of the Pacific Ocean.
The spacecraft were launched at the request of the European launch services provider Arianespace (spacecraft launch operator OneWeb) and Starsem under contracts with Glavkosmos. It was carried out by the joint calculation of Roscosmos subsidiaries: the Progress Rocket and Space Center, the S.A. Lavochkin, Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities, Russian Space Systems, Glavkosmos, as well as foreign customers.
About the upper stage "Fregat"
The upper stage "Fregat" ensures the efficient performance of all tasks of placing one or several vehicles into working orbits or trajectories taking off from the Earth. The entire launching process is carried out autonomously, without interference from the Earth. The highest reliability and almost perfect launching accuracy provide the upper stage with undeniable competitive advantages in the world space launch market.
The basic upper stage "Fregat" laid the foundation for a whole family of highly efficient upper stages, which are created and are created on its basis. The use of additional fuel tanks and a dumped block of tanks on the "Fregat" ("Fregat-MT" and "Fregat-SB") made it possible to significantly increase the mass of the refueled fuel and, thereby, increase the efficiency of the upper stage.
The basis of the structural layout of the Fregat upper stage is a block of tanks built according to a monoblock carrier scheme. It has a torispherical configuration, consisting of six spherical containers welded together, separated by spherical bottoms. Four of them are oxidizer and fuel tanks, two are compartments for onboard instruments and equipment (one of them is sealed).
About OneWeb satellites
OneWeb spacecraft are designed to create a space communications system that provides high-speed Internet access anywhere on Earth. Internet access via the OneWeb satellite system will be provided through 40 ground-based terminal stations that will be deployed on the surface of the Earth. The OneWeb terminals will be self-contained, self-sufficient and well protected from adverse environmental factors.
Each of the terminals will be able to provide high-speed Internet access in its coverage area via Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G technologies. The licensed radio frequency range will be used or, where available, the publicly available Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G radio frequency range.
OneWeb intends to deploy a low-orbit constellation of more than 600 satellites for the widespread provision of high-speed broadband Internet access services in the Ku-band, whose clients should primarily be Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G operators, as well as Internet providers.
The satellites will be in polar orbits with an inclination of 87.9 ° at an altitude of 1,200 km from the earth's surface in 12 planes evenly spaced in the longitude of the ascending node, with each spacecraft providing a throughput of 7 Gbit / s.
The satellite operator OneWeb recently announced its first distributor in Australia. Vocus will provide OneWeb high-speed communications services throughout Australia.
The OneWeb and Vocus partnership will expand access channels for a variety of industries such as mining, oil and gas, utilities, construction and community. This will bring a range of benefits, including improved business efficiency, health and safety compliance, asset tracking, environmental monitoring and new operational applications, as well as help remote workers connect with family and friends.
Using the power of the OneWeb network, Vocus can complement existing high-orbit satellite or microwave communications with low-latency LEO satellite communications.
In 2021, the State Corporation Roscosmos conducted 8 launch campaigns under the OneWeb program from two Russian cosmodromes. Five launches (March 25, April 26, May 28, July 1 and October 14) were carried out from the new Vostochny cosmodrome in the Amur Region and three launches (August 22, September 14 and December 27) from Baikonur. In total, Russian launch vehicles have delivered 318 OneWeb satellites into low-Earth orbit this year.

Dmitry Loskutov on the contracts of Glavkosmos for 2022
12/28/2021 15:00
General Director of Glavkosmos Dmitry Loskutov (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) talks about the company's contracts for 2022.
***
How many OneWeb satellite launches are expected next year? Will the main part be from Baikonur? Will other spaceports be involved?
- It is planned that in 2022 there will be 7 launches of OneWeb spacecraft, with one launch expected from the Guiana Space Center, and six more from the Baikonur cosmodrome. In accordance with the current contract for 2022, all OneWeb spacecraft launches were planned from the Baikonur cosmodrome, so far we are focusing on this.
- When is the first launch of OneWeb satellites expected in 2022?
- The first launch of OneWeb spacecraft is planned to be carried out from the Guiana Space Center in February 2022.
- How many launches in general under the Glavkosmos contracts are expected next year?
- It is always difficult to talk about plans, especially the implementation of which largely depends on our foreign partners. At the moment, under current contracts, we are focusing on 11 launches of spacecraft for various purposes, of which one will be at the Vostochny cosmodrome, three are planned for implementation from the GKTs, one of which I have already mentioned is the launch of the OneWeb spacecraft. The majority - seven launches - we plan to carry out from the Baikonur cosmodrome.
