The "package" of the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle was assembled at Baikonur
12/17/2021 01:50
According to the integrated work schedule at the Baikonur cosmodrome under the OneWeb spacecraft launch program, the assembly of the "package" (1st and 2nd stages) of the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle has been completed.
The operations were performed by specialists from the Yuzhny Space Center (a branch of the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities) and the Progress Rocket and Space Center (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) in the assembly and testing building of the technical complex of site No. 31. The next stage of work is to carry out autonomous tests of control systems.
The launch of the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb spacecraft is scheduled for December 27, 2021 from the Vostok launch complex. OneWeb spacecraft are designed to create a space communications system that provides high-speed Internet access anywhere on Earth.
Internet access via the OneWeb satellite system will be provided through 40 ground-based terminal stations that will be deployed on the surface of the Earth. The OneWeb terminals will be self-contained, self-sufficient and well protected from adverse environmental factors. Each of the terminals will be able to provide high-speed Internet access in its coverage area via Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G technologies. The licensed radio frequency range will be used or, where available, the publicly available Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G radio frequency range.
OneWeb intends to deploy a low-orbit constellation of more than 600 satellites for the widespread provision of high-speed broadband Internet access services in the Ku-band, whose clients should be primarily Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G operators, as well as Internet providers.

It’s nearly time for #OneWebLaunch12!
What better way to end the year than by continuing to build our satellite constellation?
Lift-off will take place on 27th December at 8:10AM EST/ 13:10PM UTC, so keep an eye out for livestream links coming soon!

Space warhead assembled at Baikonur for OneWeb
12/17/2021 17:52
At the Baikonur cosmodrome, the assembly of the warhead consisting of the OneWeb spacecraft, the Fregat upper stage and the nose fairing has been completed. The work was attended by specialists from the TsENKI branch - Space Center "Yuzhny", Scientific and Production Association named after S.A. Lavochkin and the Progress Rocket and Space Center (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation).
The docking operations took place in the assembly and testing building of site No. 112 of the Baikonur cosmodrome. During the assembly process, the nose fairing flaps were installed on a bundle of 36 spacecraft with the Fregat upper stage, after which the final operations were carried out by Roskosmos specialists. The next stage of preparation for launch is transportation to the technical complex of site No. 31 for general assembly with the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle.
The launch of 36 OneWeb spacecraft is scheduled for December 27, 2021 from the Vostok launch complex of site 31 of the Baikonur cosmodrome.

A rocket was assembled at Baikonur for the OneWeb mission No. 37
12/22/2021 16:15
At the Baikonur cosmodrome on December 21-22, 2021, specialists from the Yuzhny Space Center (a branch of the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities) and a branch of the Progress Rocket and Space Center (both Roscosmos enterprises) carried out a general assembly of the Soyuz-2.1b / Fregat space rocket / OneWeb in the framework of mission 37. This time there are 36 spacecraft under the fairing.
During the prelaunch work on Tuesday, the space warhead (the Fregat upper stage and OneWeb vehicles under the fairing flaps) docked with the third stage of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket. Today, this assembly has been docked to the carrier "package" (consisting of the first and second stages). At the end of the operation, electrical connections were assembled and pipelines for temperature control were installed.
Currently, the Soyuz-2.1b / Fregat / OneWeb space rocket is installed on the transport and installation unit before being transported to the launch complex. There are currently no comments on the preparation of the component parts. On December 23, it is planned to hold a meeting of the commission on the readiness to transport the rocket to the Vostok launch complex of site No. 31.
The launch of the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb spacecraft is scheduled at 16:10 Moscow time on December 27, 2021. It will take place as part of the contracts between Glavkosmos (a subsidiary of Roscosmos) and the European launch services provider Arianespace (operator of OneWeb spacecraft launches using the Soyuz-2 rocket) and Starsem.
OneWeb spacecraft are designed to create a space communications system that provides high-speed Internet access anywhere on Earth. OneWeb intends to deploy a low-orbit constellation of more than 600 satellites for the widespread provision of high-speed broadband Internet access services in the Ku-band, whose clients should be primarily Wi-Fi, LTE or 5G operators, as well as Internet providers.

For the first time 36 OneWeb devices are being prepared at the start of Baikonur
12/24/2021 08:50
On Friday, December 24, 2021, the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and 36 OneWeb spacecraft were removed from the assembly and test building of site No. 31. Now the Soyuz-2 / Fregat / OneWeb space rocket installed at the Vostok launch complex of the Baikonur cosmodrome and is preparing for launch, which is scheduled for December 27 at 16:10 Moscow time.
At present, the specialists of the State Corporation "Roscosmos" are performing technological operations according to the program of the first launch day. In particular, the assembly of circuits and autonomous tests of systems and assemblies of spacecraft, the upper stage and the launch vehicle are carried out, as well as the interaction of on-board equipment and ground equipment is being checked.
Pre-launch work is being carried out within the framework of the contracts between Glavkosmos (a subsidiary of the Roscosmos State Corporation) with the European launch services provider Arianespace (operator of the OneWeb spacecraft launch) and Starsem. These works are carried out by a joint calculation of representatives of foreign customers and subsidiaries of Roscosmos: Rocket and Space Center "Progress", Scientific and Production Association named after S.А. Lavochkina, Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities and Glavkosmos.
For the first time, 36 spacecraft will be launched from Baikonur; earlier, Soyuz-2 launch vehicles launched 34 OneWeb satellites. For this, the flight trajectories from this cosmodrome were modified in order to increase the number of vehicles launched at a time.
Now the constellation of satellites OneWeb in low Earth orbit has 358 spacecraft. The upcoming launch should bring the number of OneWeb devices in low-earth orbit to 394. OneWeb low-orbit spacecraft are designed to provide terrestrial consumers with high-speed Internet.
***
The Soyuz-2 launch vehicle was developed on the basis of the Soyuz-U serial rocket. The lead developer is the Progress Rocket and Space Center (Samara, part of Roscosmos). The missiles of the Soyuz-2 family are equipped with improved propulsion systems and modern control and measurement systems, which increase their technical and operational characteristics.
Structurally "Soyuz-2", like all missiles of the "Soyuz" family, is made according to the scheme of longitudinal-transverse division of rocket stages. In combination with the Fregat upper stage, it is designed for launching spacecraft into low-earth orbits of various heights and inclinations, including geo-transfer and geostationary orbits, as well as departure trajectories.
