Another batch of OneWeb satellites arrived at Vostochny

06/10/2021 21:00

On Thursday, June 10, 2021, a new batch of 36 OneWeb spacecraft was delivered to the Ignatievo airport (Blagoveshchensk) by the An-124-100 aircraft. Specialists of the Vostochny Space Center (a branch of TsENKI - the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) delivered them to the cosmodrome, where a joint technical calculation began preparations for the upcoming launch using the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage.

This work is being carried out as part of the contracts between Glavkosmos (a subsidiary of Roscosmos State Corporation) with the European launch services provider Arianespace (operator of the OneWeb spacecraft launch using the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle) and Starsem. Representatives of the Progress Rocket and Space Center, the S.А. Lavochkin, TsENKI and Glavkosmos (all enterprises of Roskosmos) work side by side with foreign customers.

To date, the constellation of OneWeb satellites in low Earth orbit numbers 218 spacecraft, with hundreds of others planned to be launched. The upcoming launch should bring the number of OneWeb satellites in orbit to 254. OneWeb LEOs are designed to provide high-speed Internet for terrestrial consumers.

Source: 36 OneWeb communication satellites can be launched from Vostochny.

03:15 13.06.2021

MOSCOW, June 13 - RIA Novosti. The launch of 36 British communication satellites OneWeb can be carried out in October from the Vostochny cosmodrome in case of a delay in sending the Russian automatic station Luna-25 to the Moon , a source in the rocket and space industry told RIA Novosti.

Earlier, the general director of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin told RIA Novosti that the launch of Luna-25 from Vostochny could be postponed from October 2021 due to delays in the supply of instruments and testing of the station. He later clarified that the start can be postponed to the beginning of 2022.

"If the start of Luna-25 is shifted from October 2021 to May 2022, then on October 7 a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with 36 OneWeb satellites will be launched from Vostochny," the source said.

Another agency source confirmed this information.

The contract between Arianespace and OneWeb for 21 launches of Soyuz rockets from the Baikonur, Vostochny and Kuru cosmodromes was signed in June 2015. In September 2020, OneWeb announced that the number of contracted Soyuz launches had been reduced to 19. Seven had already been completed: two from Baikonur, four from Vostochny and one from Kuru, 218 satellites were launched into orbit.

OneWeb intends to begin providing commercial satellite communications services in late 2021, and by the end of 2022, it intends to deploy a constellation of 648 first-generation satellites, which will provide broadband Internet access to users around the world thanks to full coverage of the Earth's surface .

Luna-25 should become the first station in the history of modern Russia launched to the Moon. The previous Luna-24 spacecraft was launched by the Soviet Union in 1976.

The launch of Luna-25 is planned from the Vostochny cosmodrome by a Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with a Fregat upper stage. Approximately 10 days after launch, the station should make a soft landing in the vicinity of the south pole of the moon. The main area is located north of the Boguslavsky crater, and the reserve area is located southwest of the Manzini crater.

OneWeb are not doing as much of this plane-drift, but they have more height to raise (higher final orbit), with somewhat the same result: a bit over 4 months to raise orbit.

Source: One of the OneWeb satellite launches from Baikonur postponed.

Source: one of the OneWeb satellite launches from Baikonur was postponed to 2022 for the sake of economy

MOSCOW, June 21 - RIA Novosti. One of the four launches of British communications satellites OneWeb from the Baikonur cosmodrome , planned in 2021, has been postponed until next year to save money, a source in the rocket and space industry told RIA Novosti.

In April, another agency source reported that launches on behalf of OneWeb from Baikonur this year are slated for August 2 and 26, September 18 and the end of December.

"Now the schedule is as follows: August 2, September 9 and the end of December. One launch has been postponed until 2022 in order not to pay additional money to Kazakhstan for using the area of the fall of the first stage of the Soyuz-2 launch vehicle," the agency's source said.

Another source confirmed this information, adding that the deployment of the OneWeb grouping will not be affected by this, since the missing launch is planned to be carried out from the Vostochny cosmodrome on October 7.

In June 2021, it became known that the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan approved the ratification of an agreement with Russia on cooperation in the implementation of launches from Baikonur with Soyuz-2 missiles of OneWeb satellites in the northern direction to circumpolar orbits. It regulates the procedure for the use by the Russian side of the area of the fall of the first stage of the Soyuz-2 in the Kostanay region of  Kazakhstan . According to it, the fee for using the fall area number 120A will be 460 thousand dollars per year, taking into account no more than three launches, and in the case of additional launches, the payment is made in the amount of 50 thousand dollars for each additional launch.

Baikonur prepares to launch OneWeb spacecraft

06/23/2021 18:45

In parallel to Vostochny, the planned activities under the OneWeb spacecraft launch program are continuing at the Baikonur cosmodrome. After preparing the necessary ground equipment, specialists from the Yuzhny Space Center (a branch of the Center for Operation of Ground Space Infrastructure Facilities) and the S.А. Lavochkin (part of the State Corporation "Roscosmos") began to conduct pneumatic vacuum tests of the upper stage "Fregat".

The present work is being carried out at the technical complex of the site No. 31 of the Baikonur cosmodrome. They are being carried out in preparation for the launch of the Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket and 34 OneWeb satellites from the Baikonur cosmodrome. It will mark the third launch of OneWeb spacecraft from Baikonur.

The launch operator for OneWeb is the European launch services provider Arianespace together with Starsem under contracts with Glavkosmos (a subsidiary of Roskosmos).

***

The universal upper stage "Fregat" was created at NPO Lavochkin and is intended for use as part of medium and heavy launch vehicles in order to launch spacecraft into various specified orbits. The Basic Upper Stage marked the beginning of a whole family of high-performance upper stages that are and are being built around it.

The basis of the "Fregat" structural and layout scheme is a block of tanks, built according to a monoblock carrier scheme. It has a torispherical configuration, consisting of six spherical containers welded together, separated by spherical bottoms. Four of them are oxidizer and fuel tanks, two tanks are compartments for onboard instruments and equipment (one of them is sealed). One of the containers (sealed) houses a monoblock of the control system, including satellite navigation equipment and fans of the thermal regime, in the other (unpressurized) - a small instrument compartment, service blocks, as well as high-pressure balloons of the cruise propulsion system and the propulsion system for stabilization, orientation and ensuring the launch.

The upper stage "Fregat" ensures the efficient performance of all tasks related to the launching of one or several spacecraft into working orbits or trajectories departing from the Earth. The entire process of launching is carried out autonomously, without interference from the Earth. The highest reliability and almost perfect launching accuracy provide the upper stage with undeniable competitive advantages over world analogues.
