Vostochny continues to prepare for the launch of OneWeb satellites

At the Vostochny cosmodrome, intensive preparations are continuing for the upcoming launch of the Soyuz-2.1b launch vehicle with the Fregat upper stage and a new batch of 36 OneWeb spacecraft. Today, November 2, 2020, a special aircraft with ground support equipment and two foreign customer dispensers for devices arrived at the Ignatievo airport in Blagoveshchensk.

Specialists of the Vostochny Space Center (a branch of the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) accepted the cargo, provided support for the unloading, installation on vehicles and transportation of equipment to the technical complex of the Vostochny cosmodrome, as well as unloading at the warehouse blocks.

The next operation is scheduled for November 3 - this is the removal of equipment from containers and placing it in the workplace. The dispenser is an integral part of the spacecraft - it is a transitional link between the upper stage and spacecraft.

At present, the specialists of the Vostochny Space Center at the technical complex are preparing technological equipment for refueling the Fregat upper stage with propellant components. Electrical tests of the upper stage are underway in the spacecraft assembly and test building.

The team just integrated the 36th satellite for our next launch, which means all the satellites are safe in their spacecraft containers, preparing for flight from @NASAKennedy to Vostochny. Loading in is a precise operation requiring extensive coordination & teamwork. Congrats!

Are not the first two images of the same end that was blurred in the tweet linked above?
Everything blurred in the tweet seems to be in focus here, like the interface between the bottom of the sats and the carrier.
There are a lot of intricate parts of the other end clearly visible in the third image.
Curious.....
What kind of wastrels would dump a perfectly good booster in the ocean after just one use?

OneWeb spacecraft arrived at Vostochny

The spacecraft of the British company OneWeb arrived at the Ignatievo airport (Blagoveshchensk) on an An-124-100 aircraft. Specialists of the Vostochny Space Center (a branch of the Center for Operation of Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities, part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) have already transported them to the Vostochny Cosmodrome, where they will be prepared for the launch scheduled for December 2020 on the Soyuz-2.1 carrier rocket b "with the Fregat upper stage.

This launch will be the first fully commercial from Vostochny. In addition, it will also be the first launch for OneWeb by the French company Arianespace from this launch site. Glavkosmos (a subsidiary of the Roscosmos State Corporation) is responsible for the launch of OneWeb vehicles using Soyuz-2 launch vehicles under contracts with the French company Arianespace and the Russian-French Starsem.

On November 2, 2020, two dispensers and auxiliary ground equipment were delivered to Vostochny for OneWeb spacecraft. From November 12 to December 1, in accordance with the technological schedule, work is underway to refuel the upper stage "Fregat", after which it will be delivered to the assembly and test building for the assembly of the space warhead.

Currently, the constellation of OneWeb satellites in low Earth orbit numbers 74 spacecraft, with hundreds of others planned to be launched. The first six OneWeb satellites were launched on February 28, 2019 from the Guiana Space Center (French Guiana) using the Soyuz-ST launch vehicle and the Fregat upper stage. Another 34 satellites were launched into orbit on February 7 and March 22, 2020 from the Baikonur cosmodrome using Soyuz-2.1b rockets and Fregat upper stages. The upcoming launch should bring the number of OneWeb satellites in Earth orbit to 110 units.

LEO OneWeb spacecraft are designed to provide terrestrial consumers with high-speed Internet directly via satellite communications.

Bharti CEO Mittal: joint @OneWeb investment is new phase of relations between India & UK. HMG has taken, for a very small amount, a big option in the space play. Another investor with $250-300m "close to commitment", plans to move OW's manufacturing to UK:

In Svalbard, Norway, we have 14 operational antennas, hosted by @KSAT_Kongsberg with room to grow. The avg. temperature in winter can reach a cold -20 Celsius/-4 Fahrenheit. Built to withstand extremely cold temperatures, they are vital to delivering connectivity to the Arctic.

.@OneWebSatellit1 has returned to full-scale production of spacecraft after its big client and part owner, @OneWeb, emerged from bankruptcy, but operating leaner with just less than 300 people, whereas the plant had almost 400 at its peak in early 2020.

Bharti CEO Mittal estimates @OneWeb will need $2.5bn to complete the constellation half of which has been arranged between Bharti Enterprises & HMG. "I don't see raising capital for this wonderful project for the balance amount to be any issue," he said.

Hughes Selected by OneWeb for Ground System Development and Production under New $250 Million Contract

Hughes to Produce Gateways and User Terminal Modules to Power Services on the Low Earth Orbit Satellite Network

Germantown, MD, December 16, 2020 – Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite networks and services, has been chosen by OneWeb, the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) broadband satellite communications company, to develop and manufacture essential ground system technology for the new LEO constellation. In a three-year contract valued at approximately $250 million, Hughes will produce the gateway electronics for the OneWeb system as well as the core module that will be used in every user terminal.

“Today’s announcement of a continued technology partnership with OneWeb reflects our position as the trusted innovator in the industry,” said Pradman Kaul, president, Hughes. “The ground system we develop will enable reliable, low latency broadband data, ideal for a wide range of customer applications.”

Neil Masterson, CEO, OneWeb, said: “OneWeb is building a global broadband network to deliver high-throughput, low latency enterprise grade connectivity services for a wide range of government, commercial, and mobility use cases. Our goal is to commercialize services in a year, and our partnership with Hughes will be vital in helping us launch a secure, trusted, resilient, space-based network.”

Designed by Hughes engineers, each OneWeb gateway is capable of 10,000 hand-offs per second, orchestrating handover and tracking of hundreds of gigabits of data across hundreds of beams and millions of users. Under an agreement with OneWeb prior to a restructuring in March, seven gateways had been installed with several more in various stages of production. Under the new agreement, Hughes has ramped up production on the gateway equipment and resumed testing on the installed systems.

The agreement announced today also calls for Hughes to develop and manufacture the core module for the OneWeb user terminals. Designed by Hughes, the core module is uniquely adaptable across fixed as well as aeronautical and maritime mobility terminals, for either electronically or mechanically steered antennas.

After filing for bankruptcy protection in March, OneWeb is now under ownership by a new consortium led by the U.K. Government and Bharti Enterprises and in which Hughes has agreed in principle to invest $50 million.
