I am not involved in this, it just came across my desk.  It seems as if there should be a few people here interested and well qualified to make a good run at winning it.  Please notify anyone that should know about this and post links to any resulting videos.  Contest deadline is July 31, 2015.

Challenge Overview

NASA has opened archives of current and historic NASA imagery of a variety of NASA programms.  Participants will search through NASA archives to find what inspires them, download the imagery and create their short work. Those works will be submitted to the CineSpace competition, to compete for cash awards totaling $26,000 and the opportunity to be shown to audiences at the Houston Cinema Arts Festival (HCAF), at film festivals around the world, in space, and at other venues.  Submissions can be any topic, fiction or non-fiction; up to 15 minutes in length; a minimum 10% of submission is NASA imagery; filmmakers are free to select the subject and imagery of their choice; use of NASA footage is per existing NASA guidelines for imagery use.

Begin work on your submission now! NASA archives are now open for downloading here. Entries can be uploaded here between June 1 and July 31, 2015. Finalists and winners will be selected by September 2015. Winners and awards will be presented at the HCAF and at the SpaceCom Conference in November 2015 in Houston.

and here are the winners....

CineSpace 2015

NASA and the Houston Cinema Arts Society offered filmmakers around the world a chance to share their works inspired by, and using, real NASA imagery through “CineSpace,” a new short film competition. Entries used at least 10 percent publicly available NASA imagery and video collected throughout the agency's 50-year history. The inaugural competition drew 194 entries from 22 countries and 32 states. Prizes were awarded to the top three submissions and the two films that best demonstrated the themes "Benefits of Space to Humanity" and "Future Space Exploration."
