Followers of the Soviet-era space programme will be saddened to learn that David Rickman died suddenly on May 28th. An e-mail announcing his death has been posted via the FPSPACE mailing list by his widow.

David was most active in his analyses and information-gathering of the Chelomei manned space programme: the Proton-K and UR-700 launch vehicle programmes and their associated manned lunar missions (circumlunar and direct landings on the Moon respectively), as well as the Almaz and TKS programmes.

His passing is a great loss to followers of the Soviet/Russian space programme.

I remember that he was a frequent poster here until relatively recently.

David's enthusiasm for the manned Chelomei bureau projects and the LK lunar lander was infectious. He had a keen eye for detail and it's a real pity that he wasn't able to complete the projects he was working on. Rest in peace, David.
