I wasn't expecting them to name it LC-39C.

Why not? In the 1963 plans, LC-39A was originally going to be LC-39C, but since NASA only built two pads they called it A. Now there is finally going to be a third pad at LC-39 it makes sense to call it C.

Looks like a newly-reclaimed piece of land at LC-39B.  If so, there should be an EIS for it that could provide additional facts/plans.

Not really.  It is within LC-39B boundaries.  No need for EIS.

Media are invited to attend an event for the new Small Class Vehicle Launch Pad 39C at 8:30 a.m. EDT on Friday, July 17.

NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida took another step forward in its transformation into a 21st Century multi-user spaceport with the creation of a new launch pad that is designed to attract smaller aerospace companies and enable them to develop and launch their vehicles from the center.

The ceremony will be hosted by Kennedy Director Bob Cabana and representatives from the Ground Systems Development and Operations Program and Kennedy’s Center Planning and Development and Engineering Directorates.

International media accreditation for this event is closed. U.S. media without permanent credentials must apply for accreditation by noon on Thursday, July 16.  Two forms of government-issued identification are required to receive a badge. One must be with a photograph such as a driver’s license or passport. Badges will be available for pickup at the Kennedy Badging Office, located on State Road 405 east of the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Hours for the Kennedy Badging Office are 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Questions about accreditation may be addressed to Jennifer Horner at 321-867-6598 or [email protected].

Launch Pad 39C Ready for Small Class Rockets at Kennedy Space Center

Published on Aug 4, 2015
Kennedy Space Center's new Launch Pad 39C will provide access for small class vehicle rocket launches. Computer-aided imagery illustrates how a company's rocket could be integrated with its launch platform inside the Vehicle Assembly Building or at the pad before testing and launch.
