Chris has tried pay threads for other lv's, they never seen tio attract a crowd.
Yes, it says we don't want to pay for our parties.

Have a single party thread but change its name. Old names get preserved in the old posts. Then it can be named after other things than missions, whatever is the hot topic. First title: PACE EX PARDEE DRED

Well in general I accept that we will need to have a multi-mission party thread. But the next mission after this one - CRS-6 - has a good probability to be the first one with a landing. Doesn't that deserve a dedicated party thread?

Agree with this... keep separate threads at least through CRS-6 and maybe a bit longer. When launches get too close together (what a 'problem' to deal with...), a rolling party thread with broader naming changes would be fine. Should stay in Missions Section so that we don't have to wander around NSF to vent or excitement.

I know how we can decide what to do:
Let's Create a Poll!
At least that seems to have been the theme of this section in the early months of the year.
Back on topic....Do you think Turkmenistan is nervous this being their first time and all? They should be okay so long as they've properly studied all the material on coupling SpaceX gave them. They shouldn't worry about the possibility of a premature release. That rarely happens except in the movies. I must say, though, I'm impressed with the maturity they're showing by making sure that they are fully encapsulating their package prior to "blast off". Someone must have told them the old line, "Before orbit injection you must wear protection!"

I am sure Turkmenistan is excited their first time is with the popular new kid everyone is still talking about and not some old reliable boring rocket.

Probably the last specific party thread, as the frequency of launches means we'd end up with too many of these diluting the section menu - so make the most of it! Probably will set up a master party thread for several missions at some point, so same mitigation of keeping the main threads solid.
Decision not set in stone. We're a community and the majority wishes always win! Just thinking out loud.
cant make a sub-section for them?
Hmm! Interesting.
I think that will be part of an idea I've had to do a poll on this party thread situation.....which in itself will be part of a new section.....for polls

Should we start a poll to see how many polls Chris can handle before he goes bonkers, poll vaulting sub-orbital ;-)

Whoops, I misread the title and dressed for the no pants party.
But I guess no pants is implied by no legs.

Was it No Pants Tuesday? No one said it was No Pants Tuesday!
Now I'm overdressed for Exhaust Recirculation Wednesday...

Not complaining, but whose idea was a legless turkey launch? The legs are the best part of a turkey.
On the topic of combined party threads, I like it. More material to work with in coming up with names.
its a strange combo

What about having quarterly party threads? You could still have a clever title that plays on the highlights for that quarter without having a ton of different parties to attend?
Something like: "SpaceX Q2 2015 party - clever title goes here"

I know it's some coding effort, but I think it would be bestest if there were only one thread per launch, and by default when you're composing a post, it's considered a "discussion" post, but there'd be a drop-down where you can select update or party.
When you read, you can choose to see just the updates, updates with comments, etc. Perhaps a tree view with updates forming the top-level nodes and comments the second-level nodes.
It'd mostly solve that whole problem of update threads getting polluted, too.

Some trivia about Turkmenistan: The current president is Gurbanguly Mälikgulyýewiç Berdimuhamedow (to remember that) and he was the dentist of the previous president-for-life, Saparmurat Atayevich Niyazov (puh). Niyazov, a.k.a. Turkmenbashi, was surrounded by a weird cult of personality where he did things like building a huge palace made of ice in the desert and renamed the months of the year. The month of April was renamed after his mother and September after a book he wrote.

Checking Turkmenistan on Wikipedia shows it to be a very repressive country. Not so much Party going on there. =(

When I was in neighbouring Uzbekistan in 2004, I was told a joke about official state celebrations in Turkmenistan: Half of the population takes part in the celebrations, other half checks on the first half... Anyway, let's not do any Turkmen-bashing (pun intended, sorry). I'm sure people there are really nice (like everywhere in Central Asia) and I've heard that things are getting better with the new president.

Or for simplicity this could be the party thread from now on.... "Clever title goes here party thread"
