Russian rocket-space industry employees bade their farewell to Viktor Pavlovich Legostaev, the General Designer of RSC Energia (within the United Rocket-Space Corporation), who deceased on January 8, 2015.

All those present at the mourning meeting presented their condolences to the relatives and near relations of Viktor Legostaev. The funeral service took place at the Central House of Culture after M.I. Kalinin in Korolev city. The academician was buried at Moscow Nikolo-Arkhangelsky cemetery.

"I believe that in the next months and years to come our space industry will take key decisions on further development of manned cosmonautics. The cause V.P. Legostaev devoted himself to will advance in each new project ", - said RF Vice-Prime Minister Dmitry ROGOZIN at the meeting held in Korolev city on Tuesday.

General Director of the United Rocket-Space Corporation (URSC) Igor Komarov added that V. Legostaev was a true professional and enjoyed indisputable authority with the collective: "The best way to pay tribute to Viktor Pavlovich is to achieve new successes and we are sure to attain them in the projects he was involved".

According to RSC Energia Vladimir SOLNTSEV, V. Legostaev was the person with a broad outlook and a diversity of ideas of space activities: "His ideas are still urgent, his followers are working at our enterprise, his school of thought continues its activity. That is why all things that we have discussed, planned will be accomplished".

The Head of Roscosmos Oleg Ostapenko noted that the School of thought founded by Legostaev will operate over decades; some of his concepts are yet to be studied and implemented.

From 1955 till 1960 Viktor Pavlovich LEGOSTAEV had worked at NII-1 (now FSUE M.V. Keldysh Research Center). Since 1960 he started his work at OKB-1 (now S.P. Korolev Rocket-Space Corporation Energia) where he had worked his way up from the head of subdepartment to the General Designer and the Chairman of Scientific - Technical Board of the Corporation. He was involved in S.P. Korolev - initiated activities, directly participated in building attitude control system of manned space vehicle Vostok carrying Yuri Gagarin and its prelaunch processing. Under Legostaev's scientific lead, orbital station Mir control system was developed. The outstanding designer took part in building Sea Launch Rocket-Space Complex; International Space Station (ISS) and a wide range of unmanned spacecraft, including automatic interplanetary stations Mars and Venus. Legostaev is the author and co-author of more than 250 scientific papers and inventions. He is the academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Doctor of Sciences, Professor, Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation, USSR and RF State, Lenin Prize winner, Prize Winner of the RF Government.
