But I notice that the TASS stories are careful not to give the satellite any name, Kosmos or otherwise... have they just
given up?

As far as I understand this is the 1st article 14Ф145, but the serial number is №802. Its predecessor Kosmos-2455 is an article 14Ф138, serial number №801. This is not so odd. The last Argon satellite Kosmos-1542 was article 11Ф645 №792, and was followed by an Oblik satellite Kosmos-1580 article 17Ф116 №793. Resurs-F1 article 17Ф41 №158 Kosmos-1746 was followed by article 14Ф40 №159 Kosmos-1762.

Did the fairing have a different serial number to the rocket?
