According to http://www.militarynews.ru/story.asp?rid=1&nid=359446 the next Soyuz rocket launch out of Plesetsk is on December 24; all other launches this month are keeping their dates listed here.  ;)

I have confirmation that, as of today, launch is still on track for 24th December.

Well we get a rough idea of when it launches, because of local authorities warning residents of this launch! The notice comes from the Yamal region on the remote mouth of the Ob river, which reports that this launch should happen between 02:30 and 04:30 UTC on (unorthodox) Christmas Day, with the center of the area closure at 67Ί 09' N, 69Ί 56' E: http://mo-yamal.ru/novosti/rn/2933.php Can someone check if that means an inclination of 67.1 degrees like Kosmos 2455?  ;)

According to someone who seems to be working this launch at Plesetsk, the move from Dec. 24 is to allow Angara-A5 to launch on Dec. 23: http://novosti-kosmonavtiki.ru/forum/messages/forum13/topic14340/message1321090/#message1321090

I wondered whether the use of the Soyuz-2-1B might indicate a Sun-synchronous orbit.

I wondered whether the use of the Soyuz-2-1B might indicate a Sun-synchronous orbit.

If the area shown in the post above is correct, then no.

Edit: I just made some calculations. That rocket dropping zone is consistent with this launch heading towards a 67 degree inclination orbit, the same as Kosmos 2455.

Any chance of a live stream?

If there was, you'd already know about it.

Some sign of a launch would be helpful, however,

....and in orbit! http://tass.ru/kosmos/1671072 The initial orbit should be something like 200 x 900 km x 67 degrees, before it moves to the final orbit.

I wonder if this is the first step in re-constructing the Russian "ears in space" network - all the satellites are at least a few years late.  :P

But I notice that the TASS stories are careful not to give the satellite any name, Kosmos or otherwise... have they just
given up?

As far as I understand this is the 1st article 14Ф145, but the serial number is №802. Its predecessor Kosmos-2455 is an article 14Ф138, serial number №801. This is not so odd. The last Argon satellite Kosmos-1542 was article 11Ф645 №792, and was followed by an Oblik satellite Kosmos-1580 article 17Ф116 №793. Resurs-F1 article 17Ф41 №158 Kosmos-1746 was followed by article 14Ф40 №159 Kosmos-1762.

Being a bit too logical, it is communicating data ..... right? ;)
