I obtained some 1:144 scale Space Shuttle decals from http://www.realspacemodels.com/html/decals.htm.

I decided to call my lander Endeavour.  I am Australian after all!

With a lighted matched I then discoloured and blistered the ones on the bottom of the descent stage, I also found this introduced some nice discolouration to the paint job as well.

Next stage will be the astronauts, a little more detailing, and then the landscaping.

Very nice job.

How did you do the "dots" on the hab and tunnel sections

That looks storming! Remember when you are doing the diorama to put some red dust weathering around the base and legs :D

I will probably use powdered reddish yellow rock from the crusher room at work.  I will try to photograph pristine version (post landing), slightly dusty (end of mission) and very dusty descent stage (some time after lift off, keeping in mind the descent stage will be blown clean).  of course in teal life the descent stage will be badly damaged by launch, so I am still thinking on that.

That is a winner!!  Great choices on your decals and I love the post landing "weathering"!

I wanted to use a copy of the MEM image at Gusev for a conference presentation to provide scale for a martian landscape (a talk on human Mars missions).  An unnamed co-author from an unnamed NASA centre objected saying the name was "too Shuttle"!

Sheesh!  :o  ::)
