Can anybody tell me is the Angara cross feed shown here is just a proposal / fan art or is this actually implemented in the rocket rolled out today?

Proposal. Currently  Angara 5 relies on throttling of the Core Stage

That is the reason why RD-191 engine has very deep throttle capability.

I seem to recall that cross feeding was an Angara-3 feature proposal. RD-191 throttles down to 30%, if I'm not mistaken.

I have a question that someone might be able to answer.

Where are the steering & roll control thrusters on the first stage(s) of the Angara-5?

I've been looking at the pictures as better ones have come available over the past few weeks, but i can't spot them.

I know that the main engines gimbal, and therefore the 4 outer boosters could do roll control and steering for the entire rocket so strictly speaking the boosters might not need them. (although the soyuz outer boosters do have them)

But what about the central core when the boosters are jettisoned? What keeps it straight and true?

The only potential problem is roll control - a single engine can steer just fine by gimballing. I believe the single core version of Angara has fins to assist in roll control during early stages of flight, so I suspect that there are some small thrusters somewhere for roll control.

Angara looks so much like a baby Energia - all it needs is a payload pod or spaceplane on the side!

I've cropped, sharpened and slightly enlarged one of the images posted above to allow a closer look at the launch gantry for Angara.

Am I alone in thinking that it is *very* similar to the Chinese design used for their Shenzhou flights? I wonder what else the Russians may have shared (apart from the Soyuz re-entry vehicle mould line and various spacesuits).

Angara was used by the South Koreans as the first stage of their not-especially 'national' launcher, so clearly the Russians are not averse to some pretty big (albeit commercial) shares - will Angara perhaps feed into any of the new generation of Chinese boosters?

She certainly has presence in those photos. Sleek and powerful looking.

And I love the banks of dials and knobs on the foreground console! Very "Krell lab" to me.

Please, lets use this thread only for the Angara-A5 inaugural flight. If people have generic questions about the Angara launcher family, please post them on the specific thread at http://forum.nasaspaceflight.com/index.php?topic=3321.0

Thank you!

I understand that it will fly a payload simulator for a GTO mission.is there any confirmation on the GTO mission profile? If this uses Briz-M, isn't this mission dependent on continuous success of it?
