Rollout was originally scheduled for August 2...again courtesy of Spaceflightnow.com. If Atlantis is able to roll out tonight, the P3/P4 Truss will be installed inside the cargo bay on 8/2 (according to the NASA JSC site)

That's just a NET time which has been known about ever since they scrubbed the first rollout attempt.
It all comes down to the weather as they can't roll if the probability of lightnings and precipitation is too high during the 8 hour rollout.

While it's far too early to tell exactly where it's heading or how strong it's going to be by then, Tropical Storm Chris looks set to hit Florida early next week...
Let's just hope that it doesn't develop into a big enough storm to require rollback...

Guess what?
According to NASA history, Atlantis is the lucky orbiter to be rolled back twice due to hurricanes, both in 1996 (STS-79). Endeavour has been rolled back once due to Hurricane Erin and Columbia once due to a tropical storm.

Just curious--Why, for example, couldn't they start rolling out now? Does it have to do with the workforce and shiftwork, etc? Just wondering why they delay 24 hours and not just wait on the weather...

Because the weather is always bad in the afternoon and as you state, shiftwork. Rollout workers are now on 3rd shift.

All depends on how fast they go. They vary the speed between 0.5 and 0.9mph, but normally roll at about 0.9, and have on occassion had to stop for a time (you know, clear the stray alligator out the way, deal with technical issues).
It usually takes 5 or 6 hours for the stack to roll out to the pad. That would put us between 7 and 8 am eastern time.

In other news, Chris continues to loom and may reach Hurricane status. The 120-hour forecast currently estimates 70 kt winds, centred off the southern tip of Florida though possibly veering further north. On the other hand the discussion also points out that

The 120-hour forecast currently estimates 70 kt winds, centred off the southern tip of Florida though possibly veering further north.
The spread of model forecasts still points to better bets of a southern track vs northern though...

What's that line running down the side of the SRB that seems to be held down with red tape?

I see that the Orbiter Access Arm has just been moved up to the hatch. How long after the Shuttle arrives on the pad do the technicians actually open the hatch and go into the orbiter?

RELEASE: 06-287
NASA'S SPACE SHUTTLE ATLANTIS MOVES TO LAUNCH PAD
The Space Shuttle Atlantis arrived at its launch pad at NASA's Kennedy
Space Center, Fla., at 8:54 a.m. EDT Wednesday on top of a giant
vehicle known as the crawler transporter.
After two days of weather delays, the crawler transporter began
carrying Atlantis out of Kennedy's Vehicle Assembly Building at 1:05
a.m. Wednesday. The crawler's maximum speed during the 4.2-mile
journey reached 1 mph.
While at the pad, the shuttle will undergo final testing, payload
installation and a "hot fire" test of auxiliary power units to ensure
proper function. When testing is completed, the rotating service
structure will be moved around the vehicle to protect it from the
elements.
The launch window for the Atlantis mission to the International Space
Station opens on Sunday, Aug. 27. The mission, designated STS-115,
will be the first to perform a major expansion of the station since
December 2002.

Anyone know how long it takes to get the plumbing for water, LOX, and LH2 connected up, and how it's done (extra pipes needed, prepping the cryo pipe insulation and testing)?

Are there any photos coming to Launch Photography of this? IMO the photos there are cool, as it has amazing detailed photos and close ups of the orbiters.
From the rollback of Discovery prior to STS-114, there are hundreds of cables to hook up.

I am in California enjoying a vacation, so I missed rollout this time. I'll be back before launch though. Call me Ben by the way, it's just my personal site.
