High Mach Video
« on: 07/25/2006 02:20 am »
Has anyone seen and / or can provide a link to any of the air to air video of Discovery from the 'Halo' and 'Cast Glance' aircraft?

Thanks, Paul
It's all in the data.

Hi Paul, welcome to the site here! Well the video is still be analysed by the experts, so it has not been released to the public yet.  However on SPACE.com, they have a nice article about these video views, the visible view shows the underside of the shuttle with a slight red glow on the black tiles near the wing leading edges. The infrared view shows that these same areas are hot because they show as bright white in the infrared image. Here is the link to this article on SPACE.com:

Thanks.

Richard

Pretty clear in the IR view where the protruding gap filler was...

I hate to bump this, but it has been a year so has the tape been released?  I have always wanted to see what the shuttle looks like during reentry, and from the picture it looks amazing.

No. This sort of thing is L2.
Ex-Apollo, waiting for NASA to finish what we started.

It may be the actual video itself is either ITAR restricted or outright classified, with only those few captures cleared for public viewing.

that would be odd, considering NASA puts the launch imagery from the same aircraft on the internet about the day after launch.

If you're talking about this sort of video...yes, that's available to download on L2.

Wow thanks for that,  I would join L2, but being that I am in college right now I am not financially in a place where I can (it sucks up everything!) especially if you are taking five years to get an aerospace engineering degree.  So maybe I will be able to see it in two years, when I get an income.
