Ralph F Gibbons
« on: 04/20/2014 01:28 pm »
I have just heard that my friend and collaborator for more than 40 years, Ralph gibbons, passed away on Thursday, April 17th.

I had known him since early 1973.   Ralph provided artwork for various articles of mine and his line drawings were used in books by Nicholas L Johnson and Rex Hall/David Shayler.   Ralph was also the source of many translations from Russian which formed the basis of papers that I wrote.

That's sad news. I recall your joint paper comparing the design of the Soyuz with the GE Apollo proposal.

May he rest in peace.

We did two linked papers.   Clark/Gibbons was the Soyuz history and Gibbons/Clark was the Vostok-Voskhod history.   Those papers were the starting points for my988 book.

Checking my JBIS papers, a lot had Ralph's drawings in there and his Soyuz and Salyut drawings were often reproduced without credit by various people.   Of course, many other more honest people reproduced them with a suitable credit!
