To the best of my understanding, Constellation remains the over-arching program that encompasses Orion, Ares, etc.

When they announced ARES they had the project insignia that went with it. Does anyone have the ORION one?

When they announced ARES they had the project insignia that went with it. Does anyone have the ORION one?
Orion wasn't officially announced by NASA yet...so the insignia is still probably under wraps

The benefit for NASA of coopting both the Ares and Orion names is that this will help obliterate in Google and other search engines any high ranking references to the original Ares and Orion projects, which both embarassed the performance of NASA in their own respective ways. A real MiniTru operation.

Orion was a government proposal that puts NASA throw-weights to shame, Ares was a cheap shuttle replacement HLV proposal from way back that is much cheaper than VSE. I am sure NASA gets a few tons of mail a year asking when it's gonna pull its head out and build either or of these projects.

Jim doesn't seem to think so--but a Stumpy or DSD option would allow for a larger CEV--or even Big Gemini.

I thought I had heard the orion name a few weeks ago. How is this something new? Or was it just never official til now
