MCT Factoid (no speculation) thread
« on: 03/08/2014 11:19 pm »
Despite or perhaps because of the shear size of the MCT speculation thread, Im still pretty hazy on what is actually known about it, or at least what assumptions are agreed on.

Im proposing a much shorter thread with just the factoids.

Good things to include are
*statement of the fact. (best to say "on date x Elon said y", rather than stating y as the fact)
*a reference, eg link.
*Its probably ok to include a small blurb with a tiny bit of deduction so we know what the point is, such as "IMO this establishes that the mass this can deliver to mars surface, not mars Orbit is X".

There can be more than one factoid in a post. The main thing is to keep the post lean and the claimed facts easily identifiable.

The Wikipedia thread on the Mars Colonial Transporter seems to have a source for each of the statements it makes about the MCT, all based on something the company has released or Elon has said.

Mars Colonial Transporter

One could pretty easily make a bullet list out of those, and then we would have a pretty complete list here on NSF of what is publicly known about the MCT to this point, and add a URL to each bullet to satisfy your criteria.

Re arguments from authority on NSF:  "no one is exempt from error, and errors of authority are usually the worst kind.  Taking your word for things without question is no different than a bracket design not being tested because the designer was an old hand."
"You would actually save yourself time and effort if you were to use evidence and logic to make your points instead of wrapping yourself in the royal mantle of authority.  The approach only works on sheep, not inquisitive, intelligent people."
