It seems Progress M-24M has the new light system. It's not really new, because it was already flown, but I think it's not yet in serial production, because it is not on all flights.

I see that http://www.mcc.rsa.ru/progress_m24m.htm includes in the cargo listing

чехол спутника "Часки-1" для ВКД

Case of "Chasqui-1" satellite for EVA

so what exactly is this? The Chasqui 1 itself was carried up on M-22M I thought? Is this just a deployment mechanism?

ISS live broadcast reported a 37 second burn for a debris avoidance maneuver at 557 am Houston time to clear a Briz M (part?) that lowered the ISS orbit which is fairly rare.  No impact to the Progress launch

3:30 am GMT (4:30am UK, 10:30pm Central) for docking.

Going to be a struggle, but I'll try and get back up for it. Will appreciate others being around to either help or cover if my alarm doesn't wake me up ;)

Escape tower jettison? I don't think so! :)

I had to chuckle again when the NASA PAO again got the Soyuz ignition sequence wrong - it's 16 seconds from lower mast swing out to liftoff! Then again I remember even the launch director at Kourou getting this wrong so......  ::)

Anyways FedEx, UPS and DHL will be proud that yet another Progress flight is flying like clockwork! We shall see the 150th Progress by some time next year....    :D

With all these dedicated launchwatchers gathered here, are there any favorite images of visiting vehicle launches as viewed from ISS that they can recommend? Most of the time, the launch 'phase angle' is so great the view is over the horizon, but sometimes it's in line-of-sight. Any examples come to mind?

On Soyuz the view when the engines just start up...then come up to full power.   You can see it from the flame pit.   On the ISS think the best views are just happening with the new cams.

I did not remark it during docking, because it was in shadow, but Progress M-24M has this new white thing next to its docking system. I can't remember what it is !

My guess is that it is the back of the Kurs antenna, which has had its attachment bolt blown just before docking.

It is for Otrazhenie experiment which was performed also on Progress M-61, Progress M-65, Progress M-04M and Progress M-05M.

Russian Progress-M Cargo Spacecraft to Undock From ISS on October 27
Quote
“The undocking is scheduled for 9:38 Moscow time [06:38 GMT] October 27,” the source said, adding that upon leaving the ISS, the cargo spacecraft would be taking part in a scientific experiment until November 20 to study the impact of its engines on the plasma in the Earth's ionosphere.

NASA TV Broadcasts Space Station Cargo Ship Activities

NASA Television will broadcast live the departure of an unpiloted Russian cargo spacecraft from the International Space Station (ISS) Monday, Oct. 27.

ISS Progress 56 arrived at the orbiting laboratory in July and will undock from the space station's Pirs docking compartment at 1:39 a.m. EDT Oct. 27. NASA TV coverage of the undocking will begin at 1:30 a.m. The cargo ship will undergo three weeks of engineering tests in orbit before being commanded to reenter Earth's atmosphere, where it will burn up over the Pacific Ocean.

The NASA Television schedule is available at:

NASA TV is live-which really confused me--and the Progress has separated and is backing away.  Is the crew asleep for this?  I haven't heard a word at all from the ground or the ISS...

I wonder if there was confusion over Russia switching from summer/daylight savings time to real time on Sunday morning and the NASA nerks forgot about this when they were scheduling the broadcast?

Nope, NASA TV was on time (they started coverage at 05:30 UTC, 8 minutes before un-docking). It's just me and others that have forgotten that it is going off the ISS today (in my case, I knew undocking was today, but forgotten that it was so early in the day  :()...

OK, but I was thinking of NASA being provided with the undocking time from Moscow using Moscow Time, not realising of the 1 hour change when converting to US time.

Regarding time zones, what will TsUP/Moscow Mission Control be using? They were previously on GMT/UTC +4 all year round (to my knowledge).

I wonder if there was confusion over Russia switching from summer/daylight savings time to real time on Sunday morning and the NASA nerks forgot about this when they were scheduling the broadcast?
